http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Sports_Illustrated:_Swimsuit_Model_Search/ NEW SERIES! YOU DECIDE THE WINNER! PREMIERES 8/7PM WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5 NBC joins partner Sports Illustrated to launch a nation-wide search for the next great swimsuit supermodel with its new unscripted series timed for the launch of the magazine's famed annual Swimsuit Issue. During Sports Illustrated's search for an undiscovered model for the popular Swimsuit Issue, the six-episode series will focus on what it takes to become a successful swimsuit model. Twelve selected finalists will live in Los Angeles where they will compete for the chance to appear in the best selling issue of any magazine in the world and win a million-dollar modeling contract from NEXT Model Management. The series and competition culminate with the final two contestants who will be flown to an exotic location to shoot a photo spread for Sports Illustrated. No one will know who the winner will be until America votes as part of the series finale in February. Charged with the task of whittling down the field of hopeful models is a three-judge panel including former Sports Illustrated model Roshumba Williams, NEXT Model Management President Joel Wilkenfeld and Sports Illustrated swimsuit editor Jule Campbell. "The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search" is produced by Pariah, PB & J Television and Sports Illustrated. Gavin Polone, Patty Ivins, Julie Pizzi, Terry McDonell and Roy S. Johnson executive produce the series.
Local gal from Spring is on the show. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2977910 Houston-area 'stars' get a chance to shine on national television By MIKE MCDANIEL Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Lately, you can't turn on the television without running into a neighbor. Houstonians are all over prime time. Some are ready to dazzle you with their extraordinary ability to eat something foul. Others feel they have what it takes to become a rapper or even the next Martha Stewart. Shantel VanSanten, who grew up in Spring, hopes she has the body that will get her a spot in February's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. That's why you'll find her on the premiere of The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search (7 tonight, Channel 2). "My whole life I dreamed of modeling," said the toothsome 19-year-old. "I'd put on my mom's high heels and swimsuit and put on fashion shows for her and my family." She made it, landing a deal with Houston modeling company Page Parkes when she was 15. "It took me a year to get settled and started," VanSanten said. She landed "a bunch of local jobs" while attending Incarnate Word Academy in Houston. It was while attending TCU that she learned about the NBC reality show. After a series of interviews, she landed one of the 12 spots on the show. "I went through every emotion possible," she said. "First I screamed, then I started crying and shaking. Then I was nervous and excited. It's an awesome possibility to work with NBC and Sports Illustrated." After a series of elimination shows, viewers will choose who wins the last spot in the magazine's hugely popular swimsuit issue. Some episodes have already been shot, and by NBC edict, VanSanten can't say how she's doing on the series. "Whether I was eliminated first or last, I was going in as myself and I was going to give it my all," she said. "I like to think I can walk away from every experience taking something positive with me." Should she win, she's not concerned about how much skin the magazine will show. Last year, one of the models appeared to be wearing ... well, only sand. "I'm a big fan of the swimsuit edition," she said. "As far as I can remember, I've looked for that issue. The group of girls represents what the issue stands for. We all have healthy, athletic bodies and a wholesome look. And although we're diverse we all represent the same thing: healthy women who work out, who take care of themselves, who are beautiful on the outside and, having met the others, beautiful on the inside, too. They're real, genuine people."
