Another few tid bits throught the news.

The ballot used in W Palm Beach is illegal accourding to Florida law. It requires the punch dots to be to the right of every candidate, for this exact reason.

If a Federal Judge in Florida decides that their was widespread confusion on the ballot, or that the ballot does not meet Florida's laws (see above) then he can appoint the votes according to percent, and how others voted in the nearby area to take votes away from Buchanan, and possibly to Gore. It actually happened a few years ago in Miami giving an election to someone else.

Why on Gods green earth would anyone be upset over a revote?

One that included only the original voters of W Palm Beach. I am going to assume only you Bush supporters fear it. And for good reason. Pat Buchanan himself is claiming he garnered Gores Vote and that he didnt want those votes. That it may end up costing Gore the election. All the cards are signed, so let the orginal voters revote. I dont care what anyone says about that ballot not being confusing. There are near 10's of thousands who claim it was. So what does Bush have to lose. Do you think people who voted for Bush the first time, may cross over and vote for Gore? So whats the problem.

They're upset about a revote because they know they'll lose! [IMG]

Actually, I just heard this Republican strategeryist (SNL Gaff) ask if we really wanted the can of worms opened when Gore wins Florida, then they recount Wisconsin, Iowa and New Mexico. And I for one say "Hell Yes!".

I don't care whether it shows after those recounts (if they happen) that Bush wins, but we'll know for sure.

We need that for the future of our government.

I dont fear a Revote because I am republican. I fear it because it sets a horribly wrong precident.
The ballot was okayed by Both parties. It was made available to EVERYONE in the county BEFOREHAND.
ANyone who doesnt think 100% of the people would turnout for a revote is crazy. It is NOT George Bush's fault that some people voted TWICE on the ballot, or voted for a different man than they originally chose.
This election is already under a cloud of doubt, and if you cast a revote we doom ourselves to revotes in the future. Big Mistake

It's awful, awful, awful for the country.

Revoting in one state knowing it wins the election? Campaigning can continue, votes can be swayed after the original election date or worse: votes can be bought.

Just count it and get it right for once you Floridian bastards. This is the last time the rest of the country waits for your sorry asses.

In South Florida people are claiming fraud, in West Palm Beach people are claiming the ballot was unfair.
I think if Everyone would stop thinking on their party lines, they could see what a huge mistake any revote would be.

The democrats are Swinging at anything, hoping something will stick. They have seen a few ballot boxes locked in schools and have screamed FRAUD, yet when they are opened up there is nothing but trash or the such in them.

If you want a revote, then how about our next election we have it take place over a week? Sounds good? That way you can get a guess of if your candidate is losing and needs your vote or not. The revote idea is a VERY bad idea, and anyone thinking straight and not along party lines would agree with this for the good of the USA.

I just posted a lengthy and if-I-dare-say-so hella good answer to this question in the "Balloting Mistakes in Florida?" thread. It should be recommended reading.

I'll say again, why should people that know how to read have to go re-vote because a few idiots don't know what an arrow pointing to a circle means? I can't believe you would tell these people that their vote doesn't count and they have to take time out of their day because some morons are now claming that they can't read a ballot. Only in America.

I don't know about you, but I sure don't want people who can't read determining who the president is.

You know, come to think of it, one of the tests I took in college was a little confusing. I wished I had marked a different answer than the one I gave originally. Geez, I wish I would've brought this up at the time it happened.

    Dude...few points

    1. Each ballot is signed. 100 percent doesnt have to turn out. Just the ones who actually turned in a ballot on election night. So again what would Bush's supporters have to complain about. Crossover Bush vote leaning to Gore? Hardly. Republicans are afraid that given about 2,200 more votes from Buchanan to Gore, as stats across Florida would show, then this is easily Gores election.

    2. Yes the ballot was approved by both parties, but its an ILLEGAL one according to Florida law. There are reports of 10's of thousands of voters who are complaining about the setup of the ballot, and that when they asked for another, there wasnt any to go around.

    But heres the real humdinger....

I believe it was said that about 7000 (help me if im wrong) of these confusing ballots were thrown out. If what Ive been hearing about those people who punched two holes, is that people thought both holes were to vote for Gore. I know you think its a silly line of reasoning but if you were thinking that all the holes are to be to the right of the candidate, than mayber older people or plain ol stupid people thought they were filling in both holes for Gore.

And Freak. Man get a grip. Even Pat Buchanan. Hard core right wing former republican Buchanan is claiming that there is a big problem with how many votes he recieved.

And please. You tell me that never there has been a confusing form youve had to fill out? Hey tell ya what. Next time you decide to do your taxes on your own with the long form, and make a mistake that takes an ass load of cash from you pockets, Ill make sure to tell the IRS to tell you, "Your too Big an idiot to follow direction, so screw you"

To assume that all these people who made mistakes are idiots, then dude you have issues. David Letterman, Pat Buchanan, and even former florida politicans have said that the form is confusing and that mistakes may of been made.

I say we just disqualify both candidates, find some new ones, and hold a new election.

Any way this thing works out, it will be shady and many people will be angry.

i do not care who wins because I do not think either will be able to do anything, the governemt will stagnate a bit.

Whoever wins, it will be bad for the people. We do not need a recount or a re-vote, we need to wipe the slate completely.

Or just put me up as the despotic leader.

    Florida = America's wang

I think a revote in that county would be OK. They would only allow the people who signed their names on Tuesday to vote so no new voters would be allowed.

If the Rockets lost game 7 of the NBA finals on a shot after the buzzer, wouldn't you want a replay?

If the ballot was illegal, which it sounds like it is, you have to do something.

It doesn't matter if it was approved if it was illegal. A judge can't tell someone murder is OK, and then expect the guy to get away with it.

So you are saying that if I mistakenly voted for Gore when I went to the poll (and used the same ballot as West Palm Beach I might add) that I should be able to go and say "I Screwed up. I wanna vote again"?

The dems are swinging for ANYTHING that will stick. They did it in the campaign. They swung for Racism, anti-elderly, etc.. And here they are again claiming Racism in South Florida, and Anti-Elderly (sort of) in West Palm Beach. Stop dividing the damn country. This causes NOTHING but hate. Nothing.

    Outlaw,
So if the ROckets lost game 7 on a missed shot, a replay is fine. BUT we should NOT put the players back on the court and have them RePlay the last 10 second, DOING DIFFERENT THINGS THAN BEFORE.
That is what a revote is.

But a replay is just as unprecidented as replaying the play. It's just that one helps the Republicans and one helps the Democrats. Quit trying to take the high road and saying you're trying to save this country, blah, blah, blah. Please. If you were a Gore supporter, you'd feel the same way. I want this to be right. I don't care if you have to go to Wisconsin after this. It's beneficial for the country to make positively sure that the right guy is in office, whether it's Bush or Gore.

Ok, just heard the real figure.

19,000 voters punched both holes. And lets all be quite frank. For the most part, all those votes were probably going to Gore. But people were confused and punched twice.

Now this is starting to make sense.

Thats why exit polling had Gore winning Florida, because people were saying that they voted for Gore and now their ballots are being thrown out. It makes perfect sense now. Gore won Florida, according to the people who actually voted. But because of the confusing ballot, Tens of thousand Gore votes were disqualified.

    Argue with that one boys

That's why I wonder how Bush was so sure that the polls were wrong. [IMG]

I just heard a Bush supporter saying that those 19,000 ballots were planted by the Democrats. Pleeeeeese

Dont you think that this might have happened other places? If some elderly messed up their ballot in Florida, dont you think it possible some elderly messed up their Bush vote in Wisconsin?
A Revote is a huge mistake I think

I agree Jeff, there is not going to be a winner in this election. I see bad things under any known scenario. Gore wins, another bombing. Bush wins, riots. I get a bad feeling about the near future.

The country is becoming more separated by the day now.
