I have no idea what has happened to my computer, but it's gone crazy. There are hideous amounts of some kind of spyware that ad-aware and spybot will not catch. I have no idea how I got them, but every time I start my computer, a window automatically opens and goes to 2nd-thought.com. I haven't downloaded anything in the last few days, so I really have no clue how I got this. I've tried everything...add/remove programs, deleting them manually, but I still get a lot of popups and stuff...It's driving me crazy...any idea how to fix it?
goto that site, read the help section. There should be some tools to remove all that crap off your computer. Something like this happened to me a couple weeks ago. I don't know how it ended up on my computer, but it kept forcing it to my homepage. When i'd change it, I would make all my pages going through there site. After reading the help section on their site, it gave me some tools to remove the software off my computer. Bastards!
where are you people surfing that y'all get this stuff?? it amazes me how much junk i clean off the computers at work, some people at work click on every pop up and link they see... it's nuts. surf safe, surf smart
Good advice. Never click on a pop up, and when you're asked if you want to download something to "help" you improve your "internet experience" in some way, just don't do it.
Sounds like you might have a browser hijacker --- google 'CWS shredder' it could help get it out of your system.
I have said it before... I will keep saying it until it sinks in. I don't want to turn this into a geeks version of D&D, but if you don't want to deal with this crap ever again, Buy a Mac! Seriously, I never have to put up with any of that junk.
Honestly, I have no clue...The last week has been pretty normal as far as surfing goes. I make my daily rounds - CF.net, cnn.com, ESPN.com, etc... and that's all I can remember as far as surfing goes. I haven't downloaded anything recently. At all. I did get an e-mail attachment the other day, and the problems started soon after I downloaded the attachments, but they were McAfee-scanned, and they were all Word files, so I don't think that's the problem either. Space Ghost, I would, but I'm kind of wary...the site doesn't really look incredibly professional...I removed all that crap from my startup, and that's working for now...I was thinking about reformatting anyway, so I suppose now is as good a time as any. On Mozilla - Worth it? Are the tabs the big upgrade from explorer? I'll look into downloading it after the reformat. Mulder - Possible, though PC's come a lot cheaper. I can get a Dell desktop easily for less than $800.
BZZZTT. Misinformation police. Steve Jobs BS detection alarm sounded. http://macscan.securemac.com/ A site devoted to I think the only known spyware/trojan removal software for the Mac. I could be wrong about the "only" part. I do know there are a ton of people searching for them on the Mac platform on various sites. Macs have spyware, trojans, etc., too. Maybe when 90-95% of the universe converts to Macs, spyware writers will start going after Macs, too. Until then, what's the point in "spying" on 5-10% of your target audience when you can take care of 90-95% in one swoop by going after Winblowz users?
