I have Digital Cable, and a new laptop. On my Digital Cable (DVR) I've recorded some pretty awesome stuff, AMAZING BARKLEY, for example, and I'd like to put it to my hard drive to make DVD's and videos to perhaps post. I called Time Warner Cable and they said that while I could go from DVR to VHS, then to my computer, I can't go from DVR to Computer. Is this true? Do you have any input? Thanks, Fromobile
I found this doing a Google search for "DVR computer converter"... http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/2/115294.html
this dude here at work has a XPS from DELL with the Media Center thing, and he has an infrared receiver for a remote. He also has the input thingie to receive S-video and RCA inputs... nice... I bet your laptop could get this... it's from DELL... I don't know the name of it... I will find out and edit this post.
Dag, I wish it was as easy as "PUSH HERE." This clearly means their is a market for this kind of pirating software. Let's get R done. The next century everyone will be making movies. It's going to be great time for entertainment. Every niche will have plenty of creative people filling an entertainment need.
i think you can go direct (digitally) from a scientific american 8300/8300HD DVR to a mac via USB or SARA. i don't know about PCs though.
thanks guys, It seems like there has to be an easy way, it can "record to VCR", why not to PC? I have this Windows Movie MAker software, grrrrr.......
Hey Tex, I am in Hawaii. If you have access to a video camera with a USB or Firewire in, you could sweep it through there - out of the VCR, into the camera, out of the camera, direct to the CPU. Feel free to get a mac anytime, and tell conrad to exchange his iMac, he got a lemon. GOOD NIGHT NOW ps. father-in-law is making Mai Tais.
I'm going to try this tonight... what is going to happen when I connect via usb to my powerbook? will the hd of the dvr mount on my desktop? Have you tried this personally?
Well, it seems after this and other research, putting video data on a hard drive prior to making a DVD is a crappy way to go unless editing. Really, it does seem a DVD recorder would work great, take less time, and not clog up the hard drive. Particulalry seeing how these games are long as hell. Wouldn't it be cool though?? To be able to use your DVR as an external harddrive? There is no reason to not be able to do that. Conspiring bastards. I can use a piece of plastic smaller than a crouton as a hard drive, but not DVR?? BASTARDS!!!! And what the hell is wrong with Ipods anyway? Am I the only person who realizes how bad they suck? How can I have 2000 songs, press "Shuffle Music" and still hear "Vioces Carry" EVERY time I work out??? You can't delete from the ipod? Have to use your computer? Can't play the songs anywhere else except Itunes? Oh, that's nice. No Macs in my future. Check please. My computer was made 1999 and is FINE!!!! $200. Spent $60 since. 6.5 years. 6.5 of them. It does everything. I should sell this pod to my brother Connie to go with his Imac that after one problem is changed forever.
I have tried connecting my laptop to my Motorola Digital cable/DVR box from Charter to no avail. I even used the IP address from the box to try and make a network connection. If you have a digital video camera, you can record to that (connect to video/audio out) and then transfer it to your computer.
