As far as I know, you can't. Winzip uses a compression algorithm in it's program based on the Zip format and I don't believe it can be changed.

As for zipping up files, it's easy - select the files you want to zip up, right click on them, and choose "Add to Zip." Tell it what you want to name it and in which folder you want it and you're done.

heh, yeah, zipping an mpg will give you about 1%-2% compressoin, mpg is a VERY compressed video format, it was quite well thought out.

Compressing some compressed files will sometimes make them larger.

I agree rockHEAD, it can be a b**** to use. Adding a few files to a zip isn't that hard, but adding multiple directories and making sure they unzip correctly can be a pain in the ass.

How much a file compresses is based on the file itself. Text files, for example, compress like crazy. Some graphic files often do not (using ZIP-like utilities, that is).

If you want to get the maximum compression out of Winzip, let's say you want to compress one file :

Right-click on the file you want to compress in Explorer (Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer).
    Select "Add to Zip"
You'll see a dropdown for "Compression". Select "Maximum (slowest)" in here.
Press "Add" and you should be set.

This is all assuming your right-click pops up the "Add to Zip" menu option. If you installed it and said you didn't want this right-click functionality, then come back and let me know... I'll walk you through another way (if I remember... hehe).

By the way, what kind of file is it? Sounds like a movie clip. You may not be able to compress it much to begin with.

You can stalk Hakeem Olajuwon in the produce isle with the stealth of a panther, but you can't use Winzip?! What's wrong with you?! [IMG]
