Does anyone know if the guy doing the auctions on ebay right now is legit. He says he works with Hakeem, but I am not too sure. I woudl like to buy something from him, but dont know if the autograph of Hakeem would be authentic. He also has that sunglasses thingy next to his user id.

I would be surprised if he said that and was lying. The Rockets keep track of this type of stuff.

I'll drop an email to them and ask, though, and let you know.

Aren't there pictures of the guy and Hakeem together???

I'd say that's as legit as it gets.

There are some pictures in the Benz auction of someone and Hakeem. How do I know that someone is this guy though? I am looking to buy an autograph game used jersey of Olajuwon from one of the championship games. That is probably going to cost me a load. I am going to have to sell my entire card collection. If I am going to do that I just want to make sure that I am not going to get a fake.

It seems a little shady that rocketsball.com is pushing tons of the usual e-Bay super-crap. Like these bags, or briefcases, or freaking GINSU knives. There are boatloads of this crap all over E-Bay.

They call it a charity auction ("Remember that a portion of all proceeds from this sale will benefit The Dream Foundation and The United Way!").

Ginsu knifes?!? Here's Matt's testimonial: "I love these knives; I use them at home, and they're great. Hakeem and I both have these Knives....and we love these sets!"

Seems tawdry for Matt and Dream to use their names, autographs, and charities to push ginsu knives.

OTOH, apparently I can get an autographed picture of Dream for $0.89 , plus $5.10 shipping. ("we will send you an autographed picture of Hakeem or Matt with EVERY auction purchase")

Just for grins, I looked up the registrant of the domain rocketsball.com with NetSol. The address listed is :

    RocketsBall
    13331 Veterans Memorial
    Houston, TX 77014
    US

the phone number listed is :

    832-237-1987

    email :

    service@rocketsball.com

Whatever it is, the domain is very new. It was just registered on April 2, 2001.

Try calling them or visiting the address (hehe) and see where it leads to, or at least maybe you can ask questions. Maybe the number above leads directly to someone who you can at least ask questions to since it's listed as the technical, administrative, and zone contact.

You can lie/fudge data on the domain registration, so the address and number don't have to be legit, but if they're not legit, then I'd be wary about doing business with them.

They must be having a fire sale. The leather briefcase that I bid on for $9.99 has a second listing for the same item & they're only a penny each. So, I retracted my bid on the first one & bid on the second one. [IMG] They're also listing the alleged $249 carry on bag for a penny now. Hmmm...

Ok I decided to do a little more checking and found that on the auction site it says profits go to The Dream Foundation and includes the title bar of this website: http://www.dreamfoundation.com/v2/index.html
I dont know whether of not this is Hakeem's dream foundation but it doesnt apear to be if somebody wanted to look in to it some more this might be a good place to start.

I blundered in the original post; I've corrected this.

dreamfoundation.com is not the same as Hakeem's Dream Foundation. Hakeem's "The Dream Foundation" was founded in 1995 for helping high school seniors. http://webshark.com/dream. (could've gotten this from cc.net's links section, too... duh)

I wouldn't worry about The Dream Foundation being legit (it is) as much as who the rocketsball.com person is.

Why don't you call the number and see where it leads to? If somebody answers, ask questions. At least do some of the legwork yourself! You're in college now BOY! [IMG]
