Okay, been watching the Boomerang channel and they have been showing Superfriends episodes all day long. The best Superfriends was "The Challenge of the Superfriends" which pitted the heroes against the Legion of Doom. The 11 heroes were as follows: Superman Batman Robin Wonder Woman Green Lantern Flash Hawkman Aquaman Samurai (?) Black Vulcan Apache Chief Being a Marvel guy, I figured I could use some help here. I pretty much know what each one of the above can do except for Hawkman (surely he can do more than fly) and Samurai (not sure if that is his name). As for the 13 villains of the Legion of Doom, they were as follows: Lex Luthor Brainiac Bizarro Solomon Grundy Grodd the Gorilla Captain Cold Toyman Sinestro Riddler Scarecrow Cheetah Black Manta Giganta Now, I know Luthor, Brainiac, Bizarro, and Solomon Grundy are Superman villains. Riddler is a Batman villain but is Toyman and Scarecrow Batman villains as well? I think Captain Cold and Grodd are Flash villains but not sure. Sinestro is a Green Lantern villain. But is Black Manta an Aquaman villain? And I think Cheetah and Giganta are both Wonder Woman villains, but once again, not sure. Some of these villains seem easy to figure out what their powers are like Luthor, Solomon Grundy, Bizarro, Sinestro, and Riddler. But as for the rest, I have no clue. So, if you are a DC Comics fan, maybe you can help me in shedding some light on these heroes and villains.
I think I remember seeing Scarecrow on the Batman cartoon that used to run not long ago. I don't know any more about DC Comics other than what I saw on that show years ago but I'm sure a quick search on the internet can answer most of your questions. (I checked to make sure Scarecrow was on Batman.) edit:BTW, I don't remember Toyman but he could have been with Batman.
Actually Solomon Grundy was an enemy of the entire Justice Society (precursor to the Justice League) and sworn enemy of the original Green Lantern (Alan Scott). In the comics he wasn't particular to Superman at all, though I'm sure they fought on occasion. Toyman is a Superman villian. You're right about Captain Cold and Grodd. Black Manta is an Aquaman villian (he's also his half brother and he killed Aquaman's baby son). You're right about Cheetah. I think Giganta was invented for Superfriends to match up with Apache Chief, but I could be wrong. For much, much, much more hilarious background on this stuff, go to www.seanbaby.com and click on the Superfriends page.
http://members.aol.com/SprFriends/bios-lod.htm Here's a site that has a pretty good set of bios for the Legion of Doom. Basically, Toyman was with Superman, Cold and Grodd Flash, BM was an Aquaman villian, and I think the other two with WW were right as well. (at least according to the sites I saw.) I won't try to type out ALL the powers they had. http://www.comicboards.com/dcguide/Who/Hawkman1_Bio.htm That's a BIG bio on Hawkman, but basically he can fly, be strong, talk with birds and some other things. I couldn't pull anything up with Samurai though. Sorry.
Samurai's lower body turned into a sort of tornado, I think, a la Red Tornado. He, Apache Chief and Black Vulcan were created for the cartoon. Go to seanbaby for serious kicks.
Glad to stay, just not sure if my knowledge of DC Comics is that great considering the only stuff I know was what I saw on Batman when I was like 10. I don't want to post about stuff I don't know much about. (hmm...if only all posters were like that. ) I'd rather inform people with my knowledge of video games...and..uh...other video games. BTW, those websites are pretty funny.
Wasnt there another bad guy named Darkside or something like that? He reminds me of Apocolypse on X-men.
I believe Toyman is a Superman villain. The two you mentioned as WW baddies are right. Darkside is kind of the Thanos of the DC Universe, but with a little more clout.
If you like Superfriends, you should check the all new episode(s) of Justice League on Cartoon Network on the 5th (saturday). I think Darkseid's in it, from the commercials. Not that I watch or anything...heh heh. (ok, ok, I love Cartoon Network. Watch all the time. So sue me. Bastards.)
Cartoon network is launching the new series Teen Titans on July 19. They are Robin, Raven, Cyborg, Beast Boy and Starfire
My company is talking to both Marvel and DC about doing a video game on their Superheroes, and one thing I noticed, is that DC's superheroes are shallow in depth compared to Marvel. I hope we get the Marvel deal, but would be ok with the DC deal too. DD
Batman and RC: Thanks for the links. The seanbaby thing was HILARIOUS! Okay, I think it would be neat to have a Marvel equivalent of the Legion of Doom. I know that the Avengers are the Marvel equivalent of the JLA, but let's do away with some of the throwaway heroes like Ant-Man, the Wasp (?), Vision, etc. and put more powerful and popular heroes there. Here would be my 11 Marvel heroes: Spider-Man (unofficial leader) Captain America Daredevil Mr. Fantastic (another unofficial leader) The Human Torch Iron-Man The Incredible Hulk Wolverine Rogue (the lone female superhero) Thor Cyclops Now, I didn't include The Thing because I think he is pretty much the same character as the Hulk and I think it would be great theater to have Wolverine and Cyclops on the same team because they hate each other so much (also, interesting twist to have Wolvie and Hulk on the same team). The 13 villains are harder for me to come up with since all I know are X-Men and Spider-Man villains. First attempt would be: Dr. Doom (leader) Magneto (second in command) Sebastian Shaw (great power in absorbing energy and redirecting it at foes) Mystique Loki Green Goblin Doctor Octopus Mysterio Bullseye Kingpin I still need 3 more and would like for them to be Iron-Man, Captain America, and Hulk villains or Thor and Fantastic 4 villains. Sorry, but Galactus is not on this team as he is too powerful to be considered.
Coupla biggies: Red Skull (Cap) The Leader (Hulk) Ultron! (Avengers) Sabretooth would make a good hired gun. There's also Mandarin from Iron Man. I think Juggernaut's an X-Man now or something, but he would've been great. Others (don't know their current status): Mole Man Baron Zemo The Lizard Kang
Couldn't just Apocolypse or Galacticus wreck shop on the entire roster of heroes? Also, could dark Phoenix be considered a villain.
Also, constructing a villain team is harder as you have to account for each members often differing objectives (Magneto's desire for mutant supremacy for example).
DD: Wrong. For a time in the sixties that was true. Marvel's great innovation was giving their heroes real life problems (Spiderman's an outcast and he has the flu, for example), but DC soon followed suit. The Hard Travelling Heroes storyline in Green Lantern/Green Arrow (from DC in the 70s) was heavier than anything that had gone before it. And Dark Knight and Watchmen (both from DC) are considered the industry standard for best comic book stories ever, with regard to depth, etc. Neither company's heroes corners the market on depth, and Batman's the deepest superhero character ever. Manny: Spiderman would never be leader of that kind of team. Cap would be the leader of any Marvel team. If not him, Mr. Fantastic. The thing you're devising here reminds me a lot of Secret Wars. Have you read that? Not a great series, but it pitted the top Marvel heroes against the top villians. Why Rogue? Why not (just among X-Men) Jean Grey or Storm? They're heavier hitters than Rogue. So are Invisible Woman and Scarlet Witch. Also, I haven't read X-Men in a while, but traditionally Cyclops and Wolverine don't hate each other. That's a movie thing, I think (as is Rogue's outsized status). And the Thing and the Hulk are very, very different characters, aside from their strength. If that's the criteria, Thor's the same as them as well. I can't see Magneto as second in command to anyone. Same goes for Kingpin. And while I personally love Mysterio, he's not in the same league as the rest of these guys. Anti-Sonic's suggestions are all good ones. Glad you liked the seanbaby stuff. Did you know that the long rumored JLA/Avengers series is finally coming out later this year? Includes every character who's ever been on either team and looks pretty cool.
Interesting list Manny. Personally, for my list of the Marvel "JLA", I wouldn't include any members of FF or Xmen as they have their own team stuff. And since spidey is usually going through a lot of drama(and too interesting by himself to be part of a regular group dynamic), I would make him a part time member, like batman to JLA. Something like this: Cap Daredevil Iron Man Hulk Vision(not a throw away char imo) Doctor Strange Fire Star(just to throw in a semi-powerful chica) Scarlett Witch Quicksilver Tigra(another useful chica) and Thor sucks. And the villains: Mystique Bullseye Juggernaut Black Tom Cassidy Carnage Dr Doom Hobgoblin(version where he actually was a goblin) Mandarrin Sabretooth none of the heroes or villains are too boring or weak or too powerfull. And all could be interesting given the right artist/writer. I might be an uber geek.
