I know HTML fairly well.... DHTML XML COLD FUSION JAVA JAVA SCRIPT FRONT PAGE or.... I can pay for any class or any software, but I want to learn the best techniques for building a web site...what are the pros and cons to each, the price for software, and what is your preferred choice if you could choose any of those listed above...thanks in advance. ------------------ humble, but hungry.

What would you guys recommend for someone who doesn't even know HTML yet. What is the best way of learning? What books/software are effective? ------------------
My first guess would be using an Internet search engine for tutorials. There are millions of free HTML tutorials on the 'Net. Use notepad to create your pages. That way you'll actually learn HTML or the basics of it. Afterwards, go buy some software that makes your life a lot easier. Frontpage, Homesite, etc. are all good. ------------------ "I give up. I don't do this professionally, but I have one non-profit who uses me as web master...fairly large site of several hundred pages (all in frames - ughhh). Trying to move it away from frames. I won't work for anyone else, just one company. I'm artistic as well and that's important to me. ------------------ humble, but hungry. Learn Java. Write a functional website w/ servlets... optimize it and then throw away all of your code as you convert to .jsp. Download allaire's jrun. Swipe someone's j++ or visual age. Allaire's Homesite is supposed to be dope for creating .jsp, but so is my mom's notepad. After you've written a few cool db apps, switch to ejbs and learn how to scale your application. This will make your application more reusable and you alot smarter and project wise experienced. Screw xml... it's fluff. If any of your bosses are ever into fluff you can pick up dom (xml's object model) pretty quickly. Screw frontpage, it adds a bunch of junk to your webpages. DHTML other than inline styles to spice up for ie browsers is a waste. I know nothing about cold fusion.
