Ugh. I am no developer but I know enough to make simple html etc websites with some asp includes etc. I'm making a little website for a friend and we want to put a asp mailer form on it, and I might use a simple asp include for navigation etc. I just want to build the site then upload it later. My brother was going to help me out with the mailer once uploaded but I at least wanted to be able to build the "look" etc in .asp locally. At work they have it set up where I store my files on a local server and I can view my .asp files "locally" as I work. (well it feels local but I work off a server). At home I have no idea what I am doing. I can't even figure out how to view a .asp file locally here on Vista. I thought I enabled ISS. I have a inetpub folder with some files in there but IE cant see them and Firefox wants to download whatever I type in the url. I messed around with IIS Manager and that is just confusing the hell out of me. Is there a simple way to do this that I am missing? Back in the olden days you would have PWS and the inetpub folder and you were good to go for simple asp, right? Any help here would be very appreciated. Hopefully this is not nearly as complexed as it looking to be right now. If so I will just upload as I go but I dont want to ftp it for every preview. thanks
Try this, in your admin tools there should be an option that says something like "Internet Management", I forget what the exact wording is. Start that and expand the machine root so it shows your sites, right click on "Default Site" and choose "Browse". That should open the site in your browser, if it doesn't work post what it says here.
Thanks, but I have no idea what you are talking about. I see some sort of directory in IIS Manager and tried to browse that but IE said it couldn't be found. Man I am lost.
