Hi Fellow Rockets Fans. I was discussing this with a few guys earlier this week, and was interested if anyone had a similar take on the state of our Franchise. This is the worst feeling in the world. To be a true fan of a team that has nothing to look forward to. A state of darkness, with no light in site. Sounds harsh... ? But unfortunately it's the truth. I have honestly loved this team since I can remember seeing basketball. But recently I have been bummed out on them. Maybe it was the lockout, or maybe the Yao thing? Not sure. I don’t want to buy league pass to watch them. I wasn’t even very excited watching them play their 1st game of the season ??? I’m We as Rockets fans have always had something to look forward to since the days of Elvin Hayes to the days of Yao Ming. That is a lonnnng time to always have a star or up and coming star on our Rockets team. What i mean.... is if we start back at the glory days, when we had Hakeem in 1994 and 95. We picked up various popular pieces such as Drexler, Barkley, even Pippen along the way. When those players began to decline we stole Stevie Franchise from Vancouver. He was the new face of the franchise. So when we traded Hakeem in 2001 to Toronto, it was not as bad of a loss. Thus a manageable transition. We all realized pretty quickly that Stevie would not be the star but a good building block for our squad. Having Steve still gave us hope, and was very fun to watch. The bottom feeder transition was thus more bearable. And, thanks to the losing records that Steve and company provided, also to some lottery ball luck, we got the number 1 draft pick in the 2002 draft. We drafted Yao and he instantly rejuvenated the city with dreams of Championship talk. He and Steve became the new big 2 on the block. We even had a big time coach to go with them in Van Gundy. But, when we figured out that the franchise/great wall dynamic duo would not be enough to win it all, we made a block buster deal. The T-mac trade was supposed to be the jack pot! He and Yao were supposed to be the new Shaq and Kobe championship machine! But……. unfortunately injuries derailed that experiment. So through all of this, it has been 17 years of a hope filled, fun and exciting roller coaster ride. There was never really a dead stop desert point along the way, like we are in now. Hakeem gone, Drexler gone, Steve gone, T-mac gone, and Yao officially gone now . There is no exciting up and coming rookie that will be the future face of the Rockets. No Major trade on the horizon. As of now, no high draft pick to look forward to, and no star Free agent pickups wanting to play for us. The team is full of roll players and rookie misfits. We honestly don’t know when and if we will ever truly be a contender again. We have never been here before, and i don't think i know how to feel or react to the current state of our Houston Rockets. Am I the only one???? Hope this does not get me banned from the site Thanks for listening fellow fans. Your comments on the topic would greatly be welcomed
I appreciate the sentiments, but when I started watching, the Rockets were pre-Moses and even though Rudy and Calvin and Mike Newlin were playing, they were not very good and you knew they wouldn't win anything. Besides, as an Astro and Oiler fan as well, this is more the norm than the aberration. Basketball's odd though, because individual talent can sometimes trump team. At some point, the Rockets will have to luck into a stellar talent again. It may not happen for a long time. Just pretend you're reading a Russian novel and accept the despair gladly.
We have been here before. In fact, it's been beaten to death here: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=212806
We truly have no spirit.. With Yao, Mac, Hayes, Battier gone...there is no true leader.. Murray turned our players into assets and who knows when we'll have a player again that will play more than 4 years as a rocket
lol Yep you are right. I just hope luck comes back our way soon. I miss having ammunition to use when talking noise about basketball in the barber shop
You know what? Therapy may help you (not kidding) . . . I actually love watching these guys - they're fun to watch and they play hard and they don't b**** !! They may not win every game - But hey - it's hard to win in this league. . . I think you need to grieve the days of yore and move on - You may actually like what you see . . .
I think its gonna be a fun year! I think we have alot of youngsters with upside that may suprise us all. Our veterans are pros and not a bunch of prima donnas - gotta love Scola's attitude, esp post trade. Lowry is developing into an upper level pg. This can be a really fun team to enjoy! It seems most are all wrapped up in a championship or tank mentality, and have forgotten why they became fans in the first place. Relax, watch and enjoy the games! Win, lose or draw... GO ROCKETS!
Wow ! Man that's cold bruh?? I need Therapy? Where did that come from? I thought we were all fans here? Are you this angry every day?? What is the reason for that anger ???
Being a Rockets fan, we were really drained by the Yao/Tmac era of great potential and constand injuries. It's hard to get pumped up and excited about a lackluster team. We need someone exciting to re-energize our team. A high first round pick might do it. A trade for Howard or someone of that level would obviously do it. Trading for Pau wouldn't have dont it.
Lol overreact much? We have played 1 game. ONE GAME. We don't have flashy players, but we have good players. We have a deep team, we have good point guards, good shooting guards, decent small forwards, good power forwards, and a good defensive center. We may not be the favorites to win, but we have a good team. We aren't an 8th seed team, we are more than capable of winning a playoff series. All the talent in the world doesn't make you a champion. Watch the clippers, they have a star point and pf, but they don't look all that great. They can make flashy plays, but that doesn't win you games, it just gets you on sportcenter. Worry less about the recognition and more about our play. We have a new coach and a new system that focuses more on defense than the past few seasons. What has our one complaint been the last 3 years? Defense. No center with Yao out. We have a legit defensive center. Dalembert is a lesser Mutombo, bad on offense, but good enough on defense to warrant pt. We have everyone else back from last year, minus Chuck. That means we have all the offensive power of last year, with an improvement at the center position. Remember there was a much much shorter camp that limited these players from learning this system and getting back into game shape. It will be an ugly season for the entire league. Just like the last lockout. That is no reason to freak out about tanking and our future. The draft is not a guarantee, there have been plenty of number one draft busts, so don't think tanking is a guarantee. Not only is it not a guarantee, it's not right. All of those people who spend thousands every year (good or bad) to keep their season tickets, they don't deserve to have a team throw in the towel. Every year you should go out and compete like you can win a championship, whether you think you have the talent or not. If it gets down to the end of the season and you're out, THEN and only then do you pull your starters. You do this not to intentionally throw games, but to conserve your starters bodies and to give the young players a chance to develop and grow in a real game situation. I can't tell you how frustrating this board has become with these knee jerk threads overreacting every time KM has a bad game, or we don't win a game. I honestly am ashamed of a lot of you.
This is the problem. Too many whining, b****ing, and moaning for a season that has barely begun I wish people would keep the belly aching, sour attitudes to themselves at least until we get to the halfway mark to see where this team really stands. The Rockets went through 2-3 seasons of unfortunate situations because of superstars/max players who could not stay healthy Then Stern comes in and stops us from taking steps for a better future. The state we are in today has more to do with forces that were out of the organizations control. Why cant people just enjoy the ride????
Just wait, IF we lose tonight this site is gonna explode. This would be a lose against a team that just obliterated the now championship contending "Lob City" Clippers, but no one will care here, it will still mean the end of the world is near for Rox fans.
There were a few good times before the championship years, and since then, I really liked the 2005 team. Then the team that took the Lakers to seven, that was a highlight. Besides the win streak and the end of last season it has pretty much been basketball purgatory. It is dreary, yes. BUT it is early. Martin will come around. Bud will warm up. The young guys may break through. We will see. Who knows, blockbuster trade may be around the corner.
X2 we just got over the tmac yao era of fail(well yao was a winner) its gonna take some time, honestly i dont think we are that far off from contendership status. We have a lot of good chess pieces except the 2 most important the queen and king. But who knows maybe one of our pawns can make it across the board and become a star.
