Since he is on Nike this may affect his signature model. Rockets.com announced they are looking for help in finding Ming a nickname. Steve Francis nickname, "Franchise" has already appeared on his signature RBK "X-Beam" shoe. My friends and I like the Nickname "The Dynasty". I like "The DYNASTY" because it goes with Ming and has some meaning to it for the Chinese. "The DYNASTY" also fits well with "the FRANCHISE". Two great players for the team to be centered around! If you would put a vote in for that it would be greatly appreciated!!! Help be a part of Rockets and possibly Nike history and vote for Mings Nick name!!! Send Email titled "Ming Nickname - THE DYNASTY" to andreww@rocketball.com THANKS!!! Official Ming Nickname Page http://www.nba.com/rockets/fans/Name_That_Ming-47626-34.html Look at a short encyclopedia excerpt on the Ming Dynasty: Chinese dynasty that provided an interval of native rule between eras of Mongol and Manchu dominance. The Ming extended Chinese influence farther than any other native rulers of China (Just Like Yao Ming will extend Chinese influence into the NBA) in one of the most stable but autocratic of dynasties. Under the Ming, the capital of China was moved from Nanjing to Beijing (The City were Yao Ming was at when he was Drafted by the Houston Rockets as the #1 pick) and the Forbidden City was constructed. Naval expeditions led by Zheng He paved the way for trade with S.E. Asia, India, and E Africa (just as Yao Ming will pave the way between China and the USA through the NBA). The era saw the creation of novels in the vernacular, while philosophy benefited from the work of Wang Yangming in Neo-Confucianism. Ming monochrome porcelain became famous the world over, with imitations created in Vietnam, Japan, and Europe (Yao Ming will no doubt become a Star and handle several endorsements making his products famous the world over!).
Drop "the" and just stick with "Dynasty". Same with Steve, just call him "Franchise". Sounds better to me...JMO Steve = "Franchise" and Ming = "Dynasty"
I wish we'd go back to the days where players actually earned a nickname based on the way they played, rather than being given one just because people think he needs a nickname. How about "Yao Ming" for now?
How about his nickname in his former Shanghai team? His team mates calls him Da Yao meaning 'Big Yao' It will make him feel connected straight away -G'day-
Yao is only a developing player now. His nickname should sound a little, lovely one. Like : .......Yaosi....a japanese "good"
I like "dynasty"." apocalypse" is a good one, but the fact Ming isn't the first Chinese in NBA makes it less thrill. How about "His brightness". Ming in Chinese means bright. I think the best way is wait till he show what type of player he is in NBA. Otherwise "dynasty" could be "die nasty". Michecon
The Yao Ming nickname is not that important......but get Clutch to change your moniker to Gummi, Gummi Bear or similar. Using Clutch as part of your moniker strikes me as wrong. Mango
We need to market a cereal or protein bar called "Yao Chow". I can see those dollars coming in now !!!
