Whenever I try to play my movie files, the audio works fine but my video won't show up. All I see is a blank screen on my media player while the audio is playing. I've already downloaded Windows Media Player 9 and so I'm guessing theres a problem with the Video Driver?

So I downloaded the program for the Laptop i'm using (Compaq Armada) and I guess it goes with ATI Driver and I tried to install it but it says that I dont have the ATI Driver .. so I need help. I don't know how to fix my video, someone help me please.

    Thanks.

it may be that your codec needs reinstalled.

    go here http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm
..and get the KLite codec pack..only install the codec you need..if you install all of them, you may have vid compatability problems.

when you download the pack...and then start the install...it will list them out and you should have the option to choose which one you want to install.

to start with, only install the mpeg and mpeg2 codecs.
then keep the codec pack around in case you ever need some other codecs.

Quicktime plays mpeg files and is free from Apple.

You could try the DIVX Codec package download.

    At Divx.com I think.

I was going to say that stuff in Divx and xvid and whatnot are still mpeg files, so it can be difficult at times to find the codec you need.... especially if you don't know what you're looking for.

Not that it's much help, but it's important to bear in mind that the file extension doesn't tell you about the video format. .mpeg (or .mpg) could be one of 3 or 4 codecs, as could a .avi

Claims to recognize all formats...is intended for finding out what codec a avi file neeeds...it may be useful
    http://www.moviecodec.com/download/gspot221.exe

also claims to recognize avi and mpegs and tells you what codec you have and need
    http://www.moviecodec.com/download/AVIcod11.exe

if you run either of these and it tells you that you have the right codec installed...it very well may be your driver.
then we will have to find out for sure what your video hardware is..and get the newest driver for it.
but try to find out what codec you need first since most of the time when you get audio and no video, it is a codec problem.
