So I was driving last night and as I'm driving on the beltway my truck starts slowing down and it becomes more difficult to accelerate like something is stuck on the wheels and then it "jumps" and accelerates a bit faster but keeps doing the same thing. My 'check engine soon' light came on but I don't know what could be wrong with it. I know nothing when it comes to auto mechanics. My dad checked it this morning before he went out of town and said that it's most likely something with the break pads being stuck or something. He was going to drive it and see what it was but he couldn't even pull out of the driveway and he could barely accelerate. My friend said it could possibly be that I need to get an oil change(haven't had one in a while due to laziness) because the breaks aren't receiving enough oil or something. My other friend said I could need a new transmission I honestly don't know what is going on here. If anyone is good with this type of stuff much help would be appreciated.
Your friend said that brakes aren't working because they aren't receiving enough oil because you haven't had your oil change? Whatever you do, don't listen to anything your friend has to say about automobiles. Ever. Best thing you can do: Take your truck to autozone and have them diagnose the check engine code.
Yes it does skip out, I would take it to AutoZone but I can barely drive it I don't want to get stuck somewhere I mean its like 5 minutes away but I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. BTW is the diagnostics free at AutoZone?
thats what my friend about the oil change said too. But what does that mean? How much would it cost to fix? Is it really bad?
Fuel injectors don't tend to spontaneously fail like that. Especially all at once. I would start with the distributor or ignition coils.
Don't the 2002 Fords have all kinds of sensors for the fuel mix? (i.e. oxygen to fuel mix). When these sensors fail, it's intermittent, your car can buck like a bronco and then die suddenly. Then run okay for five minutes, and so forth. I'd say it's one of these sensors or fuel injectors. And then there's the fact that you have run an american-made vehicle past 150k miles. Congrats on that, but you may be pushing your luck.
haha this is actually my first car I bought it in '06 with about 165k miles for 6500 so I couldn't pass up. But I'm afraid it may be time for a new vehicle hopefully with better gas mileage :/
depends, usually the main thing that seperates the fuel into each injector gets clogged. it could also be the fuel filter. to test that there is a schrader valve usually where the fuel line meets the intake manifold just turn the key to allow power and you will hear the fuel pump then when that stops press the schrader valve if gas shoots out then it is not the fuel pump/filter. (not sure if the engine light would come on for that or not) just go to autozone... its free.
ok I tried taking it to autozone and I couldn't. The breaks seem to be stuck because I put it in reverse and it just sits there. My dad said fix that problem first and then worry about the engine diagnostics because they're not related.
The diagnostic tool from autozone is not entirely accurate. I spend 150 on parts that i never needed changing because certain other problems were triggering those errors. My computer module went out. If that goes out, any error codes from that diagnostic tool may not be accurate
