long story short: have a 2 bedroom apartment. the 2nd bedroom is not wired to have a ceiling light or ceiling fan installed in it. we tried to get the apartment people to put one in but they said its not wired. room is not currently being used so its not a problem, but now we need the room so i need lighting suggestions.

i need something that would provide the light a normal light fixture would. i was thinking a long flueorescent tube light on one wall might do the trick? (anyone who's ever been to pakistan probably knows what im talking about). but i have no idea where to get one or how to install it. i was thinking floor lamps, but they seem expensive and im not sure they'd light up the whole room, ie itd still be a bit dark.

    does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Floor lamp
Lots of light, cheap, though not particularly efficient, and possible fire hazard if it gets knocked over.

    Fluorescent floor lamp
Much more expensive, much more efficient and will save you money in the long (really long) run. Definately the choice if you have children.

I agree. The floor lamp is a good call.

IKEA has alot of good options and everything is dirt cheap!

Lol, that is great imagery. I've never been to Pakistan, but I've been close enough. As for lighting I have no opinions, although I have track lighting throughout my place.

A floor lamp would be suggestion. Just make sure the bulb is easily found/replaced. I got one that I'm having a hell of a time finding the bulb for...

Yup, two of those halogen floor lamps will easily light up a whole room and they are generally cheap. If you don't like those, get some track lighting that has a standard outlet plug. Downside there is you have a cord running down the wall.

You can do track lighting which is suspended from the ceiling, but you could run the cord along the corner of the wall and plug in to a regular outlet. Make sure your landlord is cool with you putting screw holes into the ceiling though.

Yikes, a flourescent tube on the wall. That sounds like an interrogation room.

I think a campfire would be nice.
