Ok I'm trying to set up my PS3 and brought a HDMI/DVI cord but when I try to get hook it up and play a BLURAY movie there's NO AUDIO?

I had set it up on my upstair tv with just an HDMI cord and it works fine! pictures and audio

but I cant seem to figure out with the HDMI/DVI set up I've read some forum and notice others had the same probs but havn't really figure out an answer.

Have anybody else had this prob?

Am I surpose to just get an optical digital cable and plug it seperately for the audio?

the optical cable would provide the sound... or you should be able to use composite cables (red & white)

I had the exact same problem. I just got my PS3 yesterday too.

My brother, who is in IT, helped me fix it though. Apparently, all you have to do is go into the PS3 menu and go to the audio settings and switch it to "native audio" or something like that.

as with the ps2, that would sound right... when i hooked up the component cables and the optical line i had to change the settings. i'm sure the ps3 is similar.

Party Boy did you just had to go into the MENUE and change to "native audio" or did you had the get the optical plugs too? or you just used the component red/white plugs?

you should since you paid so much money for a system with 5.1 audio.

Yes I do have a reciever, so for the DVI setup I would have to get an optical cord and plug it to my reciever for the sound ... unlike my other tv which is hdmi to hdmi where i get video/audio straight from the tv without the reciever needed.

I was just wondering is there a way to setup HDMI/DVI to the TV and get both video/audio .... without the reciever

i never use the tv audio.

the surround sound makes the games more fun.
