My wife recently gave me a laptop computer and her grandparents gave me a Linksys 2.4GHz router. I have hooked up the router to the hub (from Time Warner) and the router has a green light verifying a signal and my Laptop picks up a wireless signal but it will not connect to the internet. What step I am missing in all of this? Any help I can get from the experts on the BBS is greatly appreciated.
Try restarting your laptop. That works most of the time, when a connection is present and it does not connect. There are more complex ways of testing your connection using your Dos prompt, but try this first way.
Hook the laptop up directly to router using cat 5 cable. If it works, then you know it is the wireless configuration on the router/laptop.
Why not call India....err...I mean Linksys at 866-870-5819. Usually they can help you fix the problem in less then 15 min.
Check connections...from Ethernet on modem to "internet/LAN" connection on router. Then from plug 1-4 on router to PC. Unplug the power to the router. Unplug the power to the modem. Do 5 jumping jacks. Plug modem back in. Wait for Ready/Cable light to go solid Plug router back in. Do 5 more jumping jacks. Open your browser of choice. Welcome to my job. Most TW modems are designed to only hook allow connection to one device. To change that 'device', you have to reset the modem. Then, routers have a tendency to not pick up a new connection on their own...so you have to reset it as well. If this doesn't work, don't call TW til after 12:30
