For the mechanically inclined or people who have had their brakes replaced I was wondering if you could help me out. Basically there's been a screeching sound from my car I have a 2005 Accord so I took it into a brake shop and the guy looked inside of each wheel with a flash light and said something or other was pretty low or worn and needs replacement on all 4 sides.

Now obviously I don't know jack about cars really when it comes to fixing them so I was hoping you guys could help out in terms of how much I should expect to pay to have new parts put in with labor included. The guy quoted me $302 bucks or so with $150 going towards the labor and other $150 going towards the parts. Is this about right? Thanks for the help in advance!

Seems like it shouldn't cost more than around $60.00 looking at the LX 4 cylinder. Disc brakes are some of the easiest things to change...IMHO.

WTF that is some insane prices?

Go to autozone, O'Reiley and ask them how much break bads are...

I have a 2000 Honda SE ( 4 door ) and I change the breaks on it all the time..

On average $35-45 for a set of front breaks.
Break Cleaner and the anti-Squeak-Grease are like an extra 3 bucks...

It's so easy to change break pads and once you do it once you will be asking yourself that's it?

It's an EX 4cylinder.... I'm just hoping that screeching sound will go away with replacing the brake pads and not a more serious problem cause if it's as cheap as you guys are saying it is damn I would've felt stupid if I had that shop do it.

First you need to find out what the guy said is the problem. Without it, how is anybody supposed to tell you what it costs? lol.

If it's a brake job, go to some place like Midas or Meineke and get a second opinion. If it's just a brake pad replacement, I think you're getting screwed. Of course if it's screeching and grinding, and it's the brake pads, you need to get it taken care of kind of quick before your rotors get screwed - that's if they haven't already.

Yeah I will need to do mine pretty soon as well. So y'all pretty much recommend going to Autozone or something and getting all the parts from there? Any specific brand to go far that lasts longer/provides a good value? Also, isn't it recommended to do some cleaning/refinishing before installing the new pads? Anyone recommend a guy to take the car to to get 'em installed?

    Brake pads: $45
    Turned rotors $40
    Brake fluid $8
Knowing your mechanic is screwing you on the labor: Priceless

You can get it done at most places outside the dealer for under $200 bucks. Some of those places like brake specialist will do it for $100 buck but the will try to upsell you by telling you other parts are worn or warped and they use really crappy parts.

I go to places that have Raybestos pads because they have a lifetime warranty so the next time I need them replaced, I only have to pay for labor.

That would be Midas I think. You pay about $200 the first time and then just pay for labor next time around (roughly $80).
