I'm at work, I need to know if there is anyway to get into a WIN2k system if I don't know the local admin pw and the computer was taken off the network. There are no other local profiles setup on this particular machine and whoever set the admin pw didn't set it to anything that we use. HELP HELP HELP.... otherwise I'm going to have to reload this poor lady's pc.
I have created and used a boot disk using the same as what coma posted earlier, and it has worked flawlessly every time. It is a Linux-formatted boot floppy. You pop it into your PC and boot off it. Following prompts, you are able to remove the local admin password (or any password for any user account). Then, reboot without the floppy and log on locally as admin. Since the password was deleted, it'll prompt you for your new password. Then, you're in. -- droxford
Yep, I have used this tool on Win2k Pro based systems a few times. I tried it once on XP though and it didn't work. You should be good to go with that, just accept most of the defaults.
Tried it out on my machine and it looked like it worked (said the pwd was changed) but when I tried to log in localy as admin it only took the old pwd. So I' have no choice but to try it on the user's pc but do y'all have any other ideas.
How did you use the old admin pwd, if you didn't know it to begin with? Did you try logging in with a blank password? I'd try it again. If not, you can do a parallel install, and use a pwd cracker to get the pwd.
I tried changing it on my machine where I know the admin pwd, it totally acted like it had changed it to "blank" but then when I tried logging in it only took the old password as if it had never reset it to begin with....... my machine is not the same one as the users.... I have to try it on her tomorrow when I am onsite
Coma, when you say parrallel install you mean install windows to a different directory right? Then what do I do from there? Thanks so much for all the help
