I have to write a big paper in law school this year. It has to be a legal issue involving college sports, and I have to pick a side of the topic to argue for. Any ideas?

The easiest topic is amateurism...should student-athletes receive a cut of the money the NCAA makes off them?

Do athlete's of college sports have the right to not only get money for the use of their likenesses but their involvement in commercials and sponsorships from their universities, and is the NCAA amateur clause legal?

I recall a huge reaction against a Title IX (Gender equality) Compliance amendment passed by President Bush a few years back which allowed using web-based surveys. If you didn't respond to the survey, you could be counted as a no vote for a particular sport.

    some others:

i think there's something about whistle-blower protection on various NCAA infractions

There's also an argument about the bball tourny doing tv revenue sharing so it isn't based on wins/losses.

    corporate logos worn on uniforms

    legal gambling on college sports

disallowing post-season play based on a student-athlete graduation rate threshold (that's quite an big argument)

Ooh, Title IX and the death of University Soccer. A lot of colleges are switching their male soccer programs over to club programs because they can't fund it. The irony is that it isn't that programs can't attract enough attention or even participants its that they would have to allocate the same cost of these soccer programs to female sport that may not attract as many patrons.

Here is an outside the box topic...
You aren't allowed to use the names or likeness of NCAA athletes for profit. That is why they aren't in video games. But c'mon... They ARE in video games. Their numbers, their stats, their height, their hometowns, their year, their looks, the color of their skin, its all accurate. I can understand how EA sports (for example) gets away with it. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be challenged.

as they shouldnt, they get full rides, along with whatever perks that comes along with it. whether they are legal perks or not.

dont wanna start an argument, so yea...good topic to choose, or title IX both solid choices.
