OK, here is the deal: what is the priciest, most outrageously 'packed' and coolest HP brand laptop there is on the market? Thanks
Depends on your needs. Do you want a portable desktop or do you want some slim and trendy lightweight laptop? One is a brick that would be impractical to lug around a coffee shop. Another might look too cool to do some heavy work (by work I mean videogames). Both surprisingly can cost around the same. Quad core laptops might come out soon.... Whatever you get, Id skimp on the hdd and the ram. both can be bought elsewhere for half the price.
TM- Do -not- get a HP laptop. I stress this- these things are horrible. When people come to me with broken laptops, 80% of the time, it's HPs. Get a Dell or a Sony. If you're interested in these brands, I can lay out some info for you.
Most laptops these days have builds that are easy to swap out the HD and RAM- the HD just slides out the side in a little tray, and the Ram is usually in a compartment on the bottom. The only time it will be deep in the laptop is on compact laptops (13-inch screen or smaller).
IF, I understand, but in this case I guess I would prefer a "not too slim" and a "not too bulky" laptop, somewhere in the middle would be fine. However, if I had to pick one I would go with the slimmer laptop as long as it's packed with the same/similar options. Oh yeah, and as for saving money, that's not remotely a concern, I am not paying for it and I pretty much have free reign to to buy a laptop with everything in it, right from the manufacturer. So money is no issue here, I don't want to do any after market upgrades, I want the laptop ready to go the moment I pay for it. I appreciate it, good Reverand. However, we have a contract with HP, so I'm bound by that.
Since price isn't an issue, there may be some higher-end HP stuff that could be built better- people usually bring me the lower end HPs that they buy at Office Depot for under $500. You might want to check out www.notebookreview.com - they have great user reviews.
I've always had a much better time with Compaq laptops than HP's (even though they're the same company). (both their desktops suck, though)
I had to revive this thread for some help buying, too. I have about $800 in my budget to buy me a sleek, slick, sweet and sassy laptop, preferably DELL or Gateway. Oh, yeah, and it should work, too . I just sold my Gateway MT6451 (1gb ram, 1.67 AMD Dual Core, 120 Gb hard drive, 15.4 inch display) laptop, and am looking to buy a better one. Any suggestions? EDIT: is this a good deal? -> Dell - Inspiron Laptop with AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TL-60 I get TRIPLE POINTS at WorstBuy's Rewards zone this summer.
Check fatwallet and slickdeals.net hot deals forums. I've seen the Dell XPS laptops for around your budget lately, which is an awesome deal. And I think they're selling them at Best Buy. I have a XPS M1330 (13-inch screen) and it's the best laptop I've ever owned. Plus, the XPS line has awesome customer service- you talk to knowledgeable techs in the US, not someone overseas reading a script.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I should also add that I can buy the laptop from any retail store, so if you come across a kick-arse HP laptop with out-of-this-world specs, post a link.
You mean this here sale price: Dell - XPS Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5550 - Tuxedo Black for $999 ?? When they mention rebates and discounts on slickdeals, don't you have to be a member of some SUPER-SECRET society to get the rebate? I'm only part of the Mexican-Irish alliance...
Got the XPS from Worst Buy at $999. Got a bag and wireless mouse at $50 for both. That thing has an HDMI output!! WOW! Triple points for Reward Zone members.
