Actually, the decision is not for cable vs satellite. I have already made that decision. I got an offer for cable Expanded Basic + 2 digital boxes + 2 premium networks for 35.00 per month for a year. Right now, I'm on Direct TVpaying $55.00 a month for their expanded basic and 1 premium channel. I also have to pay for fox and abc and I can't get nbc or cbs, where the cable has those local channels as part of their basic programing. Additionally, I won't have anymore cloud outs on the satellite. The decision I have to make is should I get the Roadrunner connection. The price on that is $30.00 per month for a year and the install is free. I guess the question is, do I get Roadrunner or not. If I do get Roadrunner, will I have to still purchase an online service? Is Roadrunner the Internet service or just the "connection"? Thanks guys. I have a few days to make this decision.
$30/month for RR is pretty good. When I had it, I was paying $50. As DSL gets cheaper and cheaper, I suspect RR will also have to lower it's price to compete. My experience has found that cable provided a significantly faster connection as compared to DSL. Get RR at $30/month...that's a great deal!
I just went the other direction. From Time Warner cable TV and Road Runner to Direct TV. I was paying $80 for cable TV (basic+2 premiums) and $45 for RR. For Dir TV, I am paying $55 (basic+ broadcast + 1 premium, 2 rooms) but my RR goes up by $5 because I don't use TW TV. How do you get such a good deal? RR is just the connection but all you need is Internet Exp. I did not care for the contents AOL provided .... and of course the speed is awesome. RR is always on, which means you will need to get some firewall to protect your computer. Norton Personal Firewall is what I got, maybe $40-80 depends if it is on sale. Before the Firewall and other start-up junks, my computer started up in 30 seconds, it now takes several minutes ... BTW, why did you go away from Direct TV? Anything I should know?
Nothing wrong with DTV. I recently moved into a brand bew subdivision and they just got Cable and Roadrunner setup in the area. A door to door guy came to the door and made me the offer. He said that only door to door guys could make that offer. On top of that, my wife had been saying that she wanted the local channels that DTV couldn't offer. I guess I should start looking for a firewall program...
Falcons Talon: at this point you could probably just buy a router with built in firewall protection on sale for like $9, which would be cheaper than buying software,
Forget hadware... FALCONS, where'd you hear the $35 offer from ???? Do tell! I have neither Cable OR Satellite...
