Well today I came home and got the dreaded Red rings of death and I want to get it fixed. Yes I know I can do the towel trick, but that is just a temporary fix and might mess up the 360 more.

I'm looking for someone I can trust to give my 360 too and actually get it back after they repair it. I talked to a few people on craigslist, but I just don't trust the people I have spoken with. I had a friend who tried to get it fixed by someone on craigslist and just never got his 360 back. So if you know somebody please let me know...and if you know there price that would be great too.

Yes I know that 360 sucks blah blah blah...and I could buy a ps3 blah blah blah...but I would rather stick with 360 because I love online play on the 360.

So please don't make this a ps3 vs. 360 thread

Have you had your system for more than 3 years?

If yes, then just buy a new Arcade one for $150 with that new Falcon chip.

XBox 360 sucks. Get a PC or a Wii. NO RRoD with those.

Ya I forgot to mention...the warranty has expired, but I don't have the funds right now to buy a new one I would rather pay around $50 to get this one fixed.

Also I'm looking for somebody in the Houston area.

contact miscrosoft i dont think there is a real fix for other than doing the towel trick or the pennies. I think you will eventually keep running in to the same problem.

I second Tinman's suggestion! It took about a week for my old machine to get repaired as well. And they covered it even though it was past warranty. Be sure to remove everything that you can pop off (i.e. hard drive, cover plate, etc.) or they'll take'em off for you and keep it. They kept my original faceplate I left on there and I had to call and complain to get a replacement.

Before they extended the warranties, I got the RROD with 1 day left on my initial warranty. Talk about timing.

I thought I got the RROD last week but it turned out my AV cable just came unplugged. I guess the RROD is 3/4 of a circle while an unplugged AV cable is a full circle.

What did you tell them to agree to fix your 360 even though your warranty had expired?

gotta research, the bigger walmarts at the busiest times means less time to scrutinize.

Not much really. I just told them I was a dedicated Microsoft customer and had just bought a second 360 for the bedroom (which is true). I guess act as nice as you can on the phone with them.

Well I ended up getting impatient and did the towel trick and it worked...but thanks for your advice...I will definitely give them a call next time I get the RRoD
