I recieved this email a while back and the guy keeps telling me that I need to respond or I will lose my domain brand. I registered www.iasgcorp.com for my company in Latin America and are webpage is up and running (still under construction) I am attaching some of the following emails he has sent me. Any help would be appreciated b/c I don't want to be screwed one way or another.

Does anyone know about internet branding? I know its kind of long but I am unsure and looking for help from the clutchfans family. Thanks guys.

(this does not constitute legal advice)

so i've taken courses in intellectual property etc so i have some background.

it looks like he's trying to get money from you so that you'll register the asian equivalents of your domain name (.hk, .cn etc). i assume that you don't care about the asian domain names. at which point, drop the conversation and you'll be fine.

your domain name of www.iasgcorp.com should be in good standing, and as long as you keep paying on time, they won't be able to take it away.

basically, they're trying to extort you. they're saying since you have no registered intellectual property around your company, you won't be able to sue them to obtain the asian domain equivalents (not true - you could, but they're right in the sense that your case would be weaker).

This is an issue you should hand to your company's legal counsel and let them handle it.

There are some weird grammer errors in that email. That always makes me skeptical.

If I were you, I would just draw a picture of a spider and send it to him as payment in full.

I think they are just giving you a chance to own the china domains. Otherwise, they claim they're going to give it to some other company.

Do you want domains in that part of the world? If not, then ignore.

I do see the possibility that this company could send these out to a mass distribution list to take advantage of other's ignorance. If so, shame on them. Check and see if the company they speak of actually exists (if you can).

Tell him that you want to help him, but you promised to transfer some funds for the King of Nigeria first.

Yes, I agree it sounds like they're just trying to solicit you to buy the Asian domain names. Although their veiled threats that you have a lot to lose by not buying them is lousy.

Exactly. I'm surprised he didn't ask for your bank account number in order to deposit funds that are being held from his government that is torn in civil war/litigation.

You'd think with this kind of badgering they'd work on spelling and grammar a bit more.

mmm spam, now with all new intimidation spices. Yummy.

    This is a total scam.

I got the same email for my company's domain www.camsecurity.com

I did some research and found out their company was a scam business. These spam emails are trying to get your billing information so that they can steal money from your accounts. Don't trust them.

If you wish to purchase .hk domains you can do so from http://www.hkirc.hk/
