It's getting real close to the time that I will order the Kenne Bell 2.6L Intercooled Supercharger, and I'm getting some cold feet on it. The question is, is it worth it to purchase the SC? It's $5700 complete for the kit I want. That's a lot of money, and while it's money that is not being taken from my budget, it canstill be used to pay bills or save for vacation or a rainy day. Is it worth it to SC my 06? It's daily driven, it will need 92 octane all the time, I don't street race, I don't get to the track very often, and when work starts, I drive 30 miles round trip daily. HELP, and please give a reason for your thoughts.
I don't know about a supercharger. My old boss had a 92 LX 5.0 Coupe with a 4.6L from the Mustang with the Shaker hood (I forget the model name). Among other things, he turbo'd it and got it down to low 10's on street tires.
Why are you spending money on an unnecessary item, when you could be applying it towards your current debt? Signed, In-debt buyer of new Harley Davidson
I guess it is a modification for my car that I have always wanted, and now I have the funds to make the purchase.
I have an 06 GT also. What color is yours? For my money I would go for a Do it yourself Turbo kit. Get a GT500 fuel pump and the fuel needs and then its just good old fashioned plumbing. I don;t like the twin screw design for cars cause traction is already a problem, seems they would be more useful in a tow truck. I think they are so popular because the install is so easy and effective on the Cobra's and L's that already have the roots type.
It depends Falcon. I mean could you use the funds more wisely? Of course.... But sometimes, you have to go caveman ! DD
Oh yeah you could also get a sportbike for that much cash. It would have higher resale value, involve no downtime of your stang and probably be faster from the jump. No risk of jacking up your engine either. I have seen more than a few of our 3V's put a rod right through that 1200 dollar all Alum block. These new pistons they stuck us with blow goats.
FT, Having a supercharger is like owning a gun. You probably will never need it, but its nice to know you have it just in case.
I've never been one for superchargers, turbos, or NOS. Just gimme plain old natural aspiration. That's always been more impressive to me. I think you said it: you rarely go to the track and you don't street race. Hell, a bone-stock GT is still faster than 80%-90% of anything else on the road, and I'm sure 'bone-stock' is the last thing your car is. I wouldn't. That's just me.
I did some heavy thinking on it. Unless something drastic changes, I'll order it tomorrow. My biggest concern was driveablilty, but after research, I dicovered that as long as I keep her in negative boost, my mileage won't be scarificed, and when I step on it, she's going to move. --Lynus, the 92 351w just left my house. She belongs to someone else now. I've gone the route of 350 NA HP/400 rwtq, and it time for me to dabble in some power adders. Easy HP --Codell, you're post helped me make my decision! --Casey, I'm keeping her with the 8lb pulley for 445 hp. I want to keep her under the 450 hp factory limits. This gives me a chance rebuild with hardened internals...eventually and add more boost with a simple pulley swap and some upgraded fuel components. I'll also be ordering some deep dish rims and some wide Nitto 555r's for the rear to help with the traction issues. --DaDa...I think I have to go caveman because you never bought me that Shelby GT500 we had talked about!!! Thanks for the help guys.
The logical side of me says no way do you put a supercharger in a daily driver, but the other side (the dark side) says hell yes. You should post pics and update your progress.
Not worth it for a daily driver, IMO. Why do you need so much power? And there are too many cops in Houston. But that's just me.
FT, I can see that you are a bit impatient. So that would explain why you went with the supercharger instead of the turbocharger.
