All right I am visiting my parents house and both my mom and my sisters computers will not connect to the house wireless. Both of the computers show up as connected but when you try to load pages it won't work and sometimes you get the limited or no connectivity error. I have run IP CONFIG with both computers and this is what I get DNS suffix: [blank] IP Addreess 192.168.1.101 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 DNS suffix: [blank] IP Addreess 192.168.1.102 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 IP address ping works on both. Sometimes I get a TCP whatever error on one. Trying to fix it before I fly away tomorrow. (they broke em not me...!)
Not sure if this work but better than trying nothing... use the internet explorer of your sister's pc and go to http://192.168.1.1 This should lead you to the front page of the wireless router/station. Some of them needs the MAC address of the ethernet cards in the PCs in order to "register" for usage. You need the manual of the wireless router/station to guide you the correct way. Good luck.
Did u enable the WPE or WPA? If so, check if the key/passphrase is correct. Try ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew Try to fix the WAN address for both of those computers in your router on those computers.
try going to the router's internal web page by browsing to http://192.168.1.100 . Once you're there, hopefully the router's web page will have some kind of indicator showing whether or not the router can see the internet. In your router's web page, go to MAC adress cloning and make sure it's cloning the MAC address of one of your computers (click on a button named "clone mac address" if it exists). Once it's cloned a MAC address, cycle power to your cablemodem, then cycle power to your router. Then put your left hand in. Put your left hand out. Put your left hand in and ya shake it all about. I think you know the rest.
yeah, i get some a password function when I get ot the router page, and my parents have an assortment of passwords dating back to the early 1970's, not fun.
try admin admin from your initial post, my first step would have been a complete shut down of all computers and unplug and reboot modem/router.
Or... there's probably a tiny hole on the router. Stick a paper clip in it and it will reset the router to factory defaults. The admin password will also then be reset and there will either be not password at all, or it will be something simple like "admin" or "password". Look up the router's manual on the net and download it - it'll tell you what the default admin password is.
SamFisher, I had the same problem at my in-laws' about 6 months ago. It was that the key on your router wasn't the same at the client's wireless adapter. Make sure the type of access and the exact key is on the other machine. So that you're not typing it, CTRL+C the key on the router's security panel, save it into a disk or Flash Drive, then take it to the client PC's and paste them. Usually, you will make less mistakes if you copy than if you just remember it and type it yourself. You can easily RESET the adapter connection without rebooting the machine. If you reboot, it will try to connect with the incorrect key or passphrase instead of the good one. It's better to start from scratch and to also explain to your peeps what they can do in case this happens again. "You need a key to get into this house, so this PC needs a key to talk to the Internet through that router over there... ok? " <- don't disrespect your mom or sister, though. Good luck, man.
you need a DNS or else the net wont work...it will show you're connected to the wireless network but not able to retrieve webpages...call your ISP for your DNS...
