I'm in the process of getting a new plan with AT&T (as our previous 2-year contract expired), and was in need of some ClutchFan input as to some of the phone choices. Out of the 5 lines, I was going to get an iPhone 3GS for two of the lines. that much is certain. however, i'm undecided about the phones for the other three lines. 1) those three phones will be used by my parents and my younger, techno-savvy sister, who already has an iPod Touch. i was planning on getting phones that had a QWERTY keyboard and a touch-screen, or something close to it. i've narrowed the search down to a few phones: the LG Xenon, LG Incite, Samsung Impression, & Samsung Eternity. does anyone have any experience with these phones? how stable/reliable are they? how easy-to-use are they? 2) and on an un-related note, what does it mean if a phone has Wi-Fi? does that mean that, even if I don't have a Data Plan, I can surf the web on my wi-fi network at home for free using the phone?
Have not had experience with these specific phones. That being said here's my 2 cents. Overall LG phones are crap; reliability wise. I've seen this first hand and have heard from a friend who owns a phone shop. I've always had luck with Samsungs; however they are not indestructible. Regarding Wi-fi question; you are correct. However most phone browsers suck except for iphone's safari and g1's (which I have used) I value wi-fi higher than 3G simply cause its faster.
I'll echo breach here: never had any of those models, but LG is crap (second-hand observations) and I can vouch for Samsung in general. My regular-old-just-make-phone-calls-dammit Samsung has lasted 5 years now, and not a single problem. I'm weary of getting a new one when it's time next month. If I do, it'll probably be a Samsung.
You don't have to USE the new phone when we renew... You could just get one that comes with the plan and keep it in a box for that dreadful day when the apocalypse comes and your phone breaks. I'm looking into a new phone too (obviously) and I'm leaning towards a Samsung based on DT's experiences.
My personal opinion is that LG will come with extras that may look nice but they are cheaply built. The Samsung may not look as nice but will last longer than LG. Just my 2 cents...
there are a few Samsungs coming out with Android for Tmo and Sprint. Keep and eye out for that. clicky clat
