I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8 last night on my laptop (I normally use Firefox, but some bill pay sites don't work with it). Now when I click to open it, it'll open for about a 1/2 second then shut down immediately. I never had this problem with anything else.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I've tried installing IE8 twice now, and have had the exact same thing happen. It never wants to open. So I've ended up uninstalling and going back to IE7.

I'd like to know what the hell is going on myself.

Do you have anti-spyware utilities installed? I had issues with IE8 when Spywarebalster and Spybot's "defense do-hickeys" were installed. When I disabled them, it worked peachy.

    1. Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 (see instructions elsewhere in this document).
    2. Restart your computer, and then open Internet Explorer 7.
    3. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
    4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset. Follow any on-screen directions.
    5. Close Internet Explorer 7.
    6. Reinstall Internet Explorer 8."

If his billpay sites won't work with Firefox, I doubt they'll work with Chrome.

And I thought Firefox overtook IE as the most-used browser on the market. Oh well. Some companies sure are lazy to switch...

I don't know about the OP's IE problem, however. My IE8 works fine, though I never use it.

You could try Opera, it can either mask itself as another browser, or ID itself as another browser, though I dont know the difference.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot before going back to 7.
