For anyone who is a mac genius out there...I need help! I am running an ibook g4 and my neighbors and I were sharing a wireless. She is right next door to me so I figured there should not be a problem. When we connect the linksys (Linksys WRT54G), everything works fine for a while and I would have about 3 bars (I am the farthest away from the router). My bars would go down to two bars and sometimes one bar. It would go up and down for a few hours and then finally I would get dropped. I would have an error when I try to connect and eventually I just can't connect to the wireless anymore. My roommate has an HP laptop and he has no trouble at all connecting to it and have excellent signal. Is there something wrong with my airport extreme (wireless card) or is there some setting I need to change on my computer or the router??
Has your airport card have connection problems with other routers? If so, then I think it might be a problem with the connection of the airport extreme card with the laptop. Open up the keyboard and disconnect the airport card and the connect it again. Make sure it clicks twice when you connect it and see if that fixes it.
I don't usually have problems connecting with my wireless in general. I had a problem once where I had full bar but for some reason I wasn't able to connect to the internet and my friend with a mac could. Other than that and my own wireless, I haven't had a problem connecting to any wireless.
Do you have access to your neighbours place? If so bring the laptop over there and see if the issues continue. If they don't it could be a distance problem or somethign that is causing interference. If they do then it is probably something in the router or your wireless card.
I will give that a try. The wireless gets really flaky for me. Would you know if the airport extreme card's capabilities? It is just odd for me to see it working for my roommate and not me and we are maybe 15 feet away or so.
