I am looking into getting a game console for playing with my 8 year son together. The main purpose is to play together with him, to him interact with whoever is playing with him. Any recommendation for the games that will have him do that and which console we should pick? Thank you!

Even though it isn't selling as well as the other consoles I would probably go with a WiiU for family entertainment.

There are a lot of games geared towards younger people, but that also older people can enjoy.

    Games I'd go with are:
    Super Mario 3D World
    Mario Kart 8
    Smash Bros
    Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze

    ...to get you started.

I think they are selling lots of bundles right now for WiiU that include a game.

Also my personal preference for consoles is the PS4, but I think the WiiU is the best to play with a younger child

Agreed with the Wii U. My nephews have one and the Nintendo characters are more appealing to younger childeen IMO. And some of the Nintendo exclusives (while not earth shattering) are still great games.

    I second this.

Don't get a PS4 or XB1 and play Call of Duty with him.

Thirded... or fourthed... or whatever, on the WiiU.

Some games I think would be pretty good to play with a kid (keeping in mind WiiU is backwards compatible with regular Wii games):

    Boom Blox Bash Party
    Kirby's Epic Yarn
    Mario Kart 8
    New Super Mario Bros
Nintendo Land (specifically I like the Link game for two people, for more than that Mario Chase is epic)
    Smash Brothers
    WarioWare: Smooth Moves
    Wii Sports Resort

If you get Wii U, Affordable Space Adventure is a must buy for playing with someone else.

Multiple people all help drive the same little space ship through obstacles.

For me it is the best game for the Wii U after Mario Kart.

In 3 hours soon (or 4 since most of you are Central time).

My kids are 5 & 8 and love the WiiU. My dad sold my brothers PS4 and bought him a WiiU because he barely played the PS4 and they both love the WiiU (Brother is about to turn 11).

    Super Mario 3D World
    Hyrule Warriors
Super Mario Bros U (and Luigi Bros U)
    Mario Kart 8
    Nintendoland

All games he should be able to play by himself, or with you. My kids love Super Smash Bros, and used to play Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze a lot, but Donkey Kong is much harder than Mario games (it has a Super Guide that will beat hard levels for you, but you can't unlock the last world).

BTW, I'd avoid Splatoon. Very diappointing game, IMO. Needs better local play and at least 2 player-local capability for online play.
