I got home at 6 and there is an injured dog in my yard with no tag. It is laying down and wont get up. All the vets are closed etc. I put some blankets on her. She is cold and shivering. She looks at least part pit bull. I'm afraid to try and move her. WTH do I do?
Just joking. That's awesome though that you at least care when a lot of people would just look the other way.
I would put some food and water out at least. If you have a long handle, such as off a broom, put something like a stuffed glove on the end and reach it out toward the dog. If it growls, bites, or acts aggresively toward it then it isn't a good idea to get near it. This is a test I've seen used numerous times to tell if a dog is violent or not.

Is there not an emergency clinic anywhere near your house? I thought most vet's offices forwarded their phone calls to emergency clinics in the evening.
We have called them. I'm sorry but I can't pay for it and I am going out of town tomorrow. The dog will let me pet her.
it's probably bad karma for phocking with radar in the spoiler thread. give her some lunch meat or something and set a bowl of water out.
I guess I'm just going to let her stay in the yard and hopefully someone will come get her. I will also call area vets tomorrow (I have tomorrow off). If nobody claims her by late tomorrow afternoon I will have to call animal control etc.
1.) Call the SPCA to pick it up. 2.) Tell them to bring the cameras. 3.) Get your fifteen minutes of fame on Animal Cops Houston. I'll look for you.
Honestly, this is why you get your dog tagged. I actually think the broom test idea sounds like a great plan. Otherwise, I'd probably see if it could tell of any injuries, and if there were no signs of blood or anything gruesome, I'd bring it in the house to warmup until I could get it somewhere tomorrow.
Give it a bunch of food and a big thing of water in a protected area. tomorrow if you can put up signs around the neighborhood etc. Put a notice on craigslist. If there were storms they might have freaked it out, happens a lot (thunder and lightening).
Update. We had a vet tech come over. The dog isn't injured but she is a pit bull. I guess she was just tired and scared so she laid in the same freakin spot in my front yard for 2 hours. So she is now in my garage and is upgraded to just plain "lost dog" (non-injured). She is really sweet and not bothering the cats or anything. I go from here... Thanks for the suggestions etc.
Put your pinky in her anus if it smells like poop then it is a dog, if you lose your finger in there, it is the begining of an alien invasion. Go to it, we are counting on you !!! DD
