The Smegs will be in New York again from Feb 3 to 10.

We are currently looking for accommodation, damn that is tough to do in New York, can live with the fact it is expensive but damn just when you think you find some reasonable you go on tripadvisor.com read the reviews and they are brutally honest and point out the place you liked is crap (and in several cases has roaches)

we did have Clarion Collection The Solita Soho Hotel picked out and it had an internet rate of $180 a night but for some reason it has now gone up to $220

we can afford to spend between $150 to $200 US a night

guess we aren't really that fussed on the area, although we have stayed around time square before

    any suggestions help please

I don't know much about accomodations in New York, but if I were you, I'd look in the boroughs and in New Jersey. I bet I could find a Motel 6 up there for $70 a night.

I used priceline for the first time this summer (though not in New York). I'd strongly recommend it if you're not too picky on which hotel.

La Quinta near MSG and Macy's is real good, and reasonable. I think 34 St.

When I'm travelling on my own dime I always try out priceline. You can really get some steals on there for cheap.

It works well for last minute stays, but I'm not sure about 6 months in advance, like Smeg here.

I used to stay at the Marriott in Brooklyn (MetroTech Center). It's right on the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge from the financial district. Extremely easy subway ride into the city. Probably much cheaper than what you'd find on Manhattan, but still ~$200/night I think.

I thought you'd be counting down the days until Rice baseball. Guess I was wrong.

    Smeg,

We stayed at the Doubletree in Times Square. Unfortunately, it was free, so I can't help you as far as price. Nice place, though.

craigslist always has some nice deals if you want to stay in an actual apartment or loft rather then a hotel.

Yeah, I work with a guy who is going their for New Years, and while hotel rooms on the island were 300-3000 bucks a night, he got a really nice one bedroom loft for $150 a night.

Smeg. I highly suggest you find accomodations outside Manhattan, where the prices are simply ridiculous, or baring that, at least stay out of the trouity spots like 42nd street or midtown. New York City is readily accessible via the subway (well assuming they aint striking that week  ). take a look at some of the cheaper places and tell us the location of the hotel, either me or some of the other NYCers here will let you know if that neighborhood isn't kosher
