Hey guys, So my girlfriend went to Planned Parenthood, got services and didn't use any insurance so as to avoid the parents. The issue now is that we paid in cash, and don't have receipts, but we got a letter from a collection agency saying we owed. What can we do? Shouldn't planned parenthood have the proof of cash receipt.
It wasn't me, it was my girlfriend, and she doesn't remember (helpful right?). So now I just want to take care of this.
She should check with the PP office and see if it's listed as paid on her account. If not, she probably got ripped off by the staff. These places aren't bastions of morality.
It is somewhat an absurd claim that they would give her "services" and let her leave without paying or signing a paper, which she would have a copy of. Were you there when she paid? Something sounds fishy. at worst, if there is no receipt, get a copy of her bank statement that shows the withdrawal and show it to the collection agency. Say this is the only proof you have, and that you think one of PP's staff took the cash and reported that she didn't pay. Repeat this to a manager of PP, too. If they still insist, threaten legal action for cheating you.
Well when my girlfriend gets a letter from a collection agency it sort of does become a big deal, and is something that is causing stress. If you are insinuating that there is some foul play involved, you are way off base, and wrong. If you were not insinuating that, then I am sorry.
Sorry in that situation, just a little on edge right now. Thanks for all the information. It seems like at best they have record and it's taken care of, or at worst the clerk took the money.
Drumdrum, note there is foul play going on as you described it. 1. She paid and PP lied to collections or 2. She didn't pay and signed a payment plan and lied to you. Did you see her pay? If you didn't see her pay, then she finds herself unable to pay or unwilling. And you should just step up and pay for her. If you did see her pay, see my previous post.
This just isn't an option to be honest with you. It would lead to a bunch of other problems. It's 95 bucks so if NOTHING capitulates then we'll just pay it. But I'd like to get it taken care of, of course.
There is no circumstance where she wouldn't pay. Though I didn't see her pay, she has more than enough money to pay for a pack of birth control pills. The only thing I can see is your number 1 scenario or as I said earlier the clerk just took money. And when I meant no foul play, I meant from my side. I can assure you to the umpteenth power that she paid.
From your initial post, the implication was that your girl friend went in for an abortion. In that scenario, I think it would be difficult for the clerk (or whoever) to steal your money or misplace a receipt. On the other hand, if she went in for BC pills (as your latest post implies), it would seem to be to be easier for the clerk to steal or misplace paperwork.
Good, so here is the deal. There is no way they let her leave without paying or without signing a payment plan, if that is even an option. The collection agency cannot request payment on no paperwork. So, PP must have paperwork that she must have signed. If they don't, then someone pocketed the money and lied to collections. Go to PP and request written reason for why they are collecting. If they can't provide it, talk to the manager. If there is nothing in writing, then there is no reason for collecting. Then talk to the collection agency too. I assumed the payment was much more than $95, such that she'd have an obvious bank withdrawal on her statement, which you could use as proxy for a receipt, for the purpose of convincing . Did she really pay cash vs check?
Is the collector a department of Planned Parenthood, or a third party collection agency that has bought the debt?
She probably never paid. She said she went to PP to get pills. Now, she has no pills but is pretending that she still went by making up a collection agency problem. Then, you'll get her pregnant, and later post on clutchfans claiming that you just "want to take care of it." J/K. Why not go ask PP if they still have her on record as paying?
