I produce a show for CNN 1190 KFXR in Dallas called "The Wall Street Shuffle."

I have Kinky Friedman booked for late next week. I thought he'd be a great interview, especially since our talkshow hosts ask tough questions and make our guests tell it like it is.

However, one of the hosts is vehemently against getting Kinky on because of anti-Semitic remarks he has made in the past.

What should I do? Cancel the interview? Are people interested in what Kinky has to say?

He's a top three candidate for Governor once again. I want to know what you think so I can plan accordingly.

    Thanks.

Whether the host likes it or not, Kinky is an important political figures these days. He is a fringe candidate, but he has a fanatical following. Part of being a talk show host is interviewing the political figures of the day, even if they may be controversial. It is part of the job.

Definitely interview him. With the Republicans about to have a civil war between Good Hair and Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Kinky has a good shot at establishing himself within the Democratic party. Plus, anybody that takes what Kinky has said in the past seriously - considering that he is Jewish - needs to only look at his first name. A career made off of tongue-in-cheek remarks and satire can't be scrutinized too heavily.

I disagree with the idea that Kinky's an important politician. "Top three" candidate? So was Nader. Kinky's about as relevant to the race for governor as Nader was for president. He's worth anywhere between 2 and 10% in his second run. He's completely irrelevant to Texas politics except as a spoiler.

It's equally stupid though to think of him as an anti-Semite. First, he's Jewish. Actually Jewish and proudly Jewish, not just Jewish born. Second, his irreverence about his religious background is inherently Jewish. Any Jew who's offended by him just really has no sense of humor.

So, in closing, my take is that those who think he's an anti-Semite are wrong and those who think he has any relevance to Texas politics are wrong.

But he's always a hell of a great interview so I say book him. And if you do interview him make sure to hold his feet to the coals on dissing Democrats the first time around and then deciding he wants to run as one after failing so badly to push the third party thing the last time.

Don't get me wrong. I love Kinky. I just think he needs to stay the hell out of politics and let the grown ups figure it out. This time, in particular, is not a time to joke around with politics. And when Kinky runs for office, he is always joking.

How could you not want to interview him? The guy is hilarious. The times I had a chance to talk to him, the guy was cracking me up. Ask him about his new book. He's bound to have a new book out, or he's working on one. If you insist on talking politics with the guy, ask him if he's running in the Democratic primary. He should, or else stay far away from 2010.

That host needs to pull his head out of his keyster. Kinky Friedman is Jewish.

Do the interview. Kinky pulls in the ratings.
