Someone posted about a website called singshot a while back. Basically a karaoke website where you can do the vocals on your favorite songs. Anyway, I liked it and showed it to my sister who loves it (she's a music teacher). The only problem is that singing into a mic with zero effects sounds pretty bad. Pretty much like a telephone :(

So our question is how to get some reverb in there to smooth out the voice a little bit. I just downloaded some shareware program called Acoustica Mixcraft, and it has lots of effects (including reverb) but I'm not sure if that helps me. Obviously I need to record reverb on the site, not in the program. I tried recording on the site WHILE recording in the program with the reverb effect turned on, but the vocals on the site went unchanged.

I have on board sound so I don't know if my first step is getting a sound card or a certain program or what. I just want my voice to go in the mic, and come out on the website with some reverb. It seems like a lot of other users on there have done it. I'd ask there but there's no forum!

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

if you are a guitar player and have a reverb or digital delay pedal run the mic thru that.

i dont know if any software will help you as you are recording directly onto the karaoke site. you will have to get the verb in there before it gets to your soundcard.

try setting up the mic in the shower and standing in there and singing. you might be pleasantly suprised. i do that all the time on my own recordings. or find some other area of the house with "natural reverb" - a long hallway or stairwell?

or set up the mic in a can and sing into it. i find metal or tin garbage cans to work ok. get creative with it. there are no rules.

i did a few things on that singshot site after that thread - here is mine...

I get what you're saying, I don't know how you'll be able to do it unless someone has made some funky software that will let you stream a recording (yours w/ reverb added on) so it looks like the stream is you singing live. W/ loads of odd free/shareware out there I wouldn't be surprised if something like that exists.

A classic trick is singing and recording it in your shower (all the tiles adds reverb).

thanks for the reply. i do play (try to play) guitar, but i don't have anything fancy for it. just an amp. i also don't have a laptop so singing in another location is kinda out the window. i tried putting the mic in a cup once, but it wasn't metal. maybe i'll try that. like i said though, there seem to be quite a few people on there that have reverb on their recordings, so it can't be that hard (or so it seems).

the link you posted is the generic link for the "my studio" section of your profile. so it ended up sending me to MY studio, not yours. what's the username? i can find you that way.
