My wife does some painting from time to time (murals etc) and we would like to be able to accept credit cards as payment. Does anyone know if this is possible with a regular paypal account? I currently have the "premier" paypal account that supposedly lets me accept credit cards on Ebay. I sent my father a test paypal invoice but he didn't see credit card payment as an option and had to log-in to paypal to pay. Do I need to upgrade to paypal business account? Is that a good deal? The paypal website is confusing to me, I want to accept credit cards but I don't really need a store, shopping cart etc. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From my knowledge you always have to have a PayPal account to transfer money...meaning the customer has to create an account... add a funding source both before they can send money.

Well I think you can set it up to take credit cards without the customer having a paypal account. Isn't Clutchfans set up that way thought paypal?

Verisign has a cheap system. I think it would cost you no more than like $20 a month to set up. But it's a nice little system for next to nothing. If you know html you can add a form and have very nice little e-commerce page.

You need a business account to accept credit card payments on PayPal. I have one for my eBay auctions. Instead of getting all the money from payments now though, a portion of each payment you receive (whether it's from a credit card or not) will go to PayPal.

    Hmmmmmmm...

I thought I could accept credit cards on ebay with my "premiere" account? I know what I have is one step above the regular paypal account, so it puts the paypal logo on my ebay auctions.

I want to ne able to send out an email invoice to someone and them be able to pay me with a credit card. But something like the Clutchfans donation page that takes credit cards would work too.

I'm just not sure if I can do that with the account I have or if I have to upgrade. I'm usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out. Paypal just might be a tad weasley.

I wouldnt go with paypal for a business. There are ways people can cheat you using paypal. If you really care about the business, spend a little more $ and set up a merchant account with one of the gazillion credit card service companies. I know a couple that I deal with if your interested. There are two rates available from the ones I deal with, either something like .15 cents a transaction and 1.6-1.8% or a flat rate with no transaction fees w/ 2.9%. $8-$10 service charge every month. You can either rent a machine for $20-$30 a month or just buy one from $400 to $$$$$$$

The thing is we will only have a few clients a month. Maybe 2-3 credit transactions a month. So I thought paypal taking credit cards would do the job for that.
