We are pitching the game for Hellboy, and wondered if anyone here has heard of it, and what type of game you guys would like to see about Hellboy. Thanks, DD
I can't believe they made a movie about this, it seems like a tiny niche. Same with Vampire the Masquerade while we are at it.
Thats uber groovy news, DaDak. Despite an adequate to slighty abover average trailer. Everything surrounding the property and all the news thats been slung around (especially by Nick and the Sewer Chewers). Makes what should already be a top film of 2004, an absolute benchmark in comic to film adaptation, and an ever solid piece of cinematic history. Of course, that is the horror fanboy inside speaking. But, either way, you can't go wrong with Ron Pearlman.
Eeeesh, cursed edit, I meant Ron Perlman. Surely, I'll be banished to the land of Martin Norris, Hakeem Olajawan, and Mr.Ming.
I've never read the comic, but with the movie coming out, I looked into it and it's a neat story. I try not to buy comics anymore, so I don't know if I'll ever pick it up, but I'm interested in teh movie none the less. I'm guessing you are making this based on the movie and from the trailer, it seems Hellboy can be quite an interesting character in the video game realm. 3rd person shooter is probably what you already had in mind, right DaDa? The guy can jump from rooftop to rooftop, that seems pretty badass. He's strong and he uses a big ass revolver. I think if you look at the way X2: Wolverine's Revenge plays, that is a good starting point. Just don't make the characters look really stupid as they did in that game. Actually, you should look at Spider-Man the movie game too, since it was a quite a hit. Of course, avoid getting any ideas from any batman game except for Batman: Vengeance, which is the only good game since the original movie game on Sega and Nintendo.
Hellboy is a niche comic with some quality books. I think a correctly done game would appeal to the masses, but you also have to keep with the niche audience that would most likely buy the game. It is kind of like Peter Jackson with his LOTR movies: gotta keep it close enough to the book to please the fans, but give it enough oomph so anybody can like it, whether or not they read the comic. I think you'll find a strong core of fans for this one, but it might be hard to get it out to everybody.
I must really be on the outside whe it comes to comic books because I have never heard of this one before. I never heard of DareDevil either and they made that a movie too
Oh man... so you never had comic cards as a kid like the rest of us? Haha... those were some good times... "I'll trade you a Mr. Fantastic for a Silver Surfer..." hahaha
I can understand Hell Boy since it's a cult thing, I'd never heard of it before either, but Daredevil? Come on man, he's been around since 1964. That's just 2 years after Spider-Man.
The game would be an all new story, not following the movie at all. I had never heard of it before either, but one of the guys I work with, (the creator of Oink) was well familiar with it. I got to meet people at Revolution studios and they seem interested in the game. DD
The comic itself is a little corny. I think that is the draw to it. C'mon, a demon is brought back by Nazi's but goes to the United States to become part of a task force of other super-humans, ghosts and people to protect the world from other ghosts and demons. He loves junk food and cartoons, and he's in love with a chick he works with. Its actually a pretty funny back story.
