I've been on two. The first was a traffic helicopter when I worked in radio. I didn't do traffic but just went up for a ride with the traffic people and the pilot as they had an empty seat. Tom Austin and Rosy Chance were the traffic people on the flight for anyone who remembers traffic people from the 90's. I don't remember the pilot. The weirdest part was take off. I didn't know we were in the air until the helicopter spun around in the direction the pilot wanted to go. The second time was a volcano tour in Hawaii on my honeymoon and it was expensive. Both times were fun.
20-30 times. Probably the best one was when I had to take photos for smoke management during a prescribed fire at the Grand Canyon. We took off from the North Rim and hovered at points over the Canyon from Point Sublime to the Walhalla Plateau so I could lean out and snap pictures. The quesiest ride was on a fire outside Phoenix when we crammed into a Lama and I drew the outside seat. No big deal except the doors were off and my leg and left ass cheek were literally hanging out. ^Not me.
Once I was in a helicopter and it was on a spinning disc. It was spinning really fast. Then it took off all of a sudden.
I have no great fear of heights and love airplane flights, but something about helicopters freaks me out. I just don't think I'll ever want to take a ride in one...they seem so unsafe.
Are you sure? cus I did the same thing and mine didn't take off.. so I went on a plane instead that was on a huge treadmill and we flew.
yup, numerous times...in nigeria!! it took us from the island to the main land and back. all i have to say is it's not all that it's cracked up to be. i'm sure if the view was nicer than the niger delta (i.e. Hawaii or the grand canyon) it'd be nice but my trips were no biggy. take off felt cool when you went up b/c it felt like a roller coaster ride. other than that, it's very bumpy and very loud. you have to wear ear muffs.
