Who is the closest comparison to Hedo in the league? I would have to give the nod to Lamar Odom since they both are tall, lengthly, can hit the outside shot, and are still athletic enough to get to the basket at will. I didn't give him much credit for a nice upside in his Sactown days but he sure has surprised me. I thought he was Peja the 2nd.... I'd love to have someone like him on the Rockets.
I'd compare him to T-Mac. He's the tall point-forward with good passing skills. Obviously not as athletic as T-Mac is (or once was) but with a better outside shot. Instead of the Jordan of Turkey, I'd say he's the T-Mac of Turkey.
turk can be a ballhog a la ron ron sometime... that explains the 5 for 20 fg he put up from time to time.
Definitely current McGrady. About the same quickness, both play too far from the basket most of the time, both are deadlier in the 4th qtr, both like to stop the ball, both take plays off on defense, both like to create for others, both have passing advantage due to height.
hedo makes very good decisons with the ball in his hands, he would be a very good asset to the rockets. when he drives to the hoop he usually finds an open person for the open shot.
Hedo does not get to the basket at will as the OP suggested. It's pretty much the opposite. He generally struggles beating his man off the dribble. His slow foot speed usually forces him to pull up for a mid-range shot or into awkward, contested bank shots when he does make it to the rim. Fortunately, because of his great length, getting those mid-range shots off is not much of a problem. For these reasons as well as the ones mentioned by Ziggy and Duncan, the answer is McGrady.
Definitely McGrady. Not as athletic/physically gifted, but definitely the same style of play. The chief differences I'd say are that he doesn't have McGrady's midrange game, and has inferior ball handling and playmaking/court vision, but is a better 3 point shooter.
lol @ this thread. he plays like mcgrady, BUT he doesn't do this... this.. and this... as well, lmao... thanks for the laugh
anyone remember walt williams? his play kinda reminds me of the wiz. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UwU841N7Y8o&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UwU841N7Y8o&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bFUI9lsdR7Y&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bFUI9lsdR7Y&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
just barely though. toni had a few solid years, too. So if Hedo has peaked and starts coming back down again, they may end up having had very similar careers whee it would just be a matter of opinion who was better than the other. that said, i see no reason why hedo shouldn't at least be a 15 ppg, 4+ rpg, 2.5+ apg for the next 3 or 4 years, playing with Dwight... so I think he will be the better player at the end of the day
At this point Hedo is poor's man Tony. But they are very much alike. It's the closest comparison I'd agree.
