First of all, I have a 1993 Ford Taurus. My car's temp guage was reading between the "R" and the "L" in the word "NORMAL" stamped above the guage. Ever since I bought the car it has ran consistently on the "N". I became concerned. I flushed out the radiator and replaced the thermostat.

Now, the problem seems to have improved. The car is running at the "N" mark again, but only when driving at speeds above 35mph. When I am driving between red lights or the car is in park/neutral with the engine running, the temp guage needle will wander over to the "R to L" range.

One thing I have noticed is that the cooling fan will not kick on until the needle reaches the "L". It stays on long enough for the needle to regress back to the "R" and then it kicks off. This doesn't seem normal. What I would like to do is have the cooling fan run at all times. My question is how would I do this?

I know it is possible because I have seen it done before.

Can someone walk me thru it?

I had a 94 Taurus a while back where I had to replace the cooling fan temperature sensor twice. The fan would not kick on until you turn the air on (automatically turns on the cooling fan) or it would have to get real hot to come on. Fairly easy to replace if you have the right sized wrench.
