I have recently been trying to stop eating fast food and eat heathier overall but I’m having a hard time coming up with meals that don’t require much effort to prepare. I am a student and cooking is really not an option because I do not have the time. I am also getting sick of eating healthy choice and lean cuisine dinners and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I really think that I can make a change if I can come up with a better selection of foods. I would also apprecialte any suggestions for healty snack foods.

    Thanks

Cooking's not that hard - for example, put some water in a pot on the stove, drop a piece of chicken into it, wait about 10 minutes, and check it to see if it's done by slicing it open in one spot. Open up some diced tomatoes and melt some cheese into it and you have a quick (10-15min total) and relatively healthy snack.

If you are going to eat healthy, though, you pretty much have to cook for yourself. There really is no such thing as healthy fast food - unless, of course, you eat salads everyday. Snack foods aren't much better either, unless you start snacking on bananas and carrots and the like.

Cooking really doesn't take that much time, the food tastes better, and is almost always better for you. Speaking from experience, it's much better for you to take the few minutes to cook something and eat it than worry about finding a healthy fast/snack food, as very few options exist.

no cooking at all or just easy stuff to make?

personally, when I'm eating healthy(not right now, hehe) I go with something light for breakfast (cereal, waffles, oatmeal, mebbe a couple of eggs for change of pace). Something light for lunch (sandwich, soup, pasta) and whatever for dinner(as long as it's not gorging).

Also drink a lot of water, try to finish off close to a gallon a day. No cokes, sweet drinks. One can, if you can't go without.

Also, if you get hungry in between meals, snack on stuff like granola bars, bagels, fruit, fruit, and more fruit.

Nothing wrong with salads everyday, that's what I do...

I eat this meal everday for dinner: a veggie sandwich (40 calories/slice sourdough bread, lettuce, tomatos, onions, pickles, mustard, black pepper, jalapenos, green peppers)... cup of Nile brand soup, and an apple

very filling and low calorie... that has been my dinner everyday for several years now...

my favorite low calorie snack is dry cereal (corn flakes or special K) or cereal with milk

air popped popcorn (98% fat free) is a good choice...

i stick with fruit... it tastes great and is very filling... bananas, apples, grapes, canteloupe, pineapple, and honey dew melon.

and of course water... i gave up my diet sodas about 6 months ago and nothing has crossed my lips but nearly 2 gallons of water per day (and i feel great!) bad side... so many trips to the restroom!

    Thanks for the replys,
I have no problem with cooking (I eat a lot of pasta) as long as it doesn't take too long and its easy to make. An annoying thing, to me, about cooking is that I live by myself so the portions have to be small or I have to eat the same thing several meals in a row. Also I have fortunatly cut out regular soft drinks from my diet. I cant even stand to drink regular coke any more since switching to diet.

    Thanks again

Udon noodles.... much better for you than Ramen, and I think they taste better. You can buy them in packets at asian markets and some grocery stores. Throw whatever you want in with them like brocolli, silk tofu, cabbage, and shrimp.

Penne pasta with garlic, olive oil, red pepper flakes, and parmesan. Make sure you boil the pasta with plenty of salt in the water, and chop and cook the garlic in the olive oil until it becomes fragrant. Mix it all together and put some parmesan on top. I like this a lot better than pasta with canned tomato sauces. You can use it as a side or just make a lot of it for a meal.

Pan fried anything... salmon, white fish, chicken, pork. Just add salt and pepper and cook over the stove.

Chicken terriyaki... just pan fry some chicken with canola oil, and during the last few minutes, add terriyaki sauce (buy in a bottle, or mix mirin and soy sauce). Serve over white rice with some vegetables.

Snacks: granola bars, fig newtons, dried fruit (figs, apricots), pretzels, I also like cereal for snacks like shredded wheat with soy milk

That's about all I can think of for quick stuff right now.

all you need is a george foreman grill and a pack of tyson even-cook chicken breasts. get some frozen vegetables and pop 'em in the microwave and you have a healthy quick meal, simple as that.

Easiest healthy food I know is old fashioned oatmeal (not the one-minute kind, and not the flavored crap they sell). I put about a cup in a bowl, add enough water to have it wet but not bubble over, and nuke it for 2.5 minutes. Then I add skim milk and honey. It's high in protein, high in fibre, and it is a low glycemic-index food. It's very filling as well.
