They just mentioned it on their Saturday sports. Said he would be live and in studio on Sunday night. Video capture gurus get ready!
I'm interning there right now in the sport department under Randy McIlvoy. Think Deke could muster the English to give a shout-out to clutchfans.net? Guess we'll see tomorrow...
Welp. Glad that people knew I was refering to Seseme Street Cookie Monster and not anything else. Close one there.
Ive had to do a interview there before for the morning news and lets just say... damn its cold in there... He better wear a jacket, hes skinny
OK, you guys. Before I say anything else, I do not have the pics to prove it--you're just going to have to trust me on this one. As I mentioned earlier, I'm a sports intern at Channel 2 right now, and so I was as excited as the next guy to learn that Dikembe would be in studio tonight. Upon arriving to the station after the Rockets game this afternoon, however, I learned it would be my job to contact and PICK UP Deke for the interview. So before I know it, I'm driving Dikembe Mutombo around Houston in a Denali, listening to him and his brothers argue on the phone about the just-finished Super Bowl. We actually had a pretty lengthy discussion on the way back to his place. Very nice guy, very funny, and a genuinely good heart. More details tomorrow--I am dog tired after the long day, so I'm hitting the sack. Just thought I'd share before I called it a night...
No, we actually talked more about his former situation(s) than with the Rockets. I'm crunched for time, so I'll give a brief run-down and get back on here later when I can be more detailed: He finally decided after all of his moves to leave his family in Philly. His kids kept having to start over at different schools after stops in Denver, Atlanta, and Philly, so when the trade to New York happened, he decided to keep the family there. I found this out after he got off the phone from his wife to check in... He loves Texas and Houston especially, and he knows his way around pretty well. He was telling me how to get everywhere, even though I knew the way... He drove up in a silver Bentley to where I was picking him up after being out watching the Super Bowl with some friends, and he said he used his part of the take the 76ers got for making it to the Finals back in '01 to buy it... He is one of ten siblings and gets tired of his immediate family members, as well as extended ones, always asking for $$$; for example, he bought several of them cars, but then they kept calling back and asking for money for repairs, then later for GASOLINE money; this is when he got funny and turned to me and said, "Get out and get a g--damn job!" He didn't like the fact that TO played in last night's game; he felt it took away from the work the other receivers had been doing to take up the slack, as well as what they had done to get them to the game; I argued that maybe if they had done that the last three previous years, TO wouldn't have come to begin with; he smiled at that... I asked if he was around when the whole Allen Iverson "practice" fiasco happened; he said he left the year before; then he started doing a mock impression of the press conference when Iverson kept saying "we talkin' about practice" over and over; this is the point where I nearly drove off the road laughing... Also said that AI is a great guy--that people misunderstand him a lot--and that Iverson misses having Mutombo around... Said that people in his country cannot fathom the amount of money he makes over here; the average income for a family is around $35 a month in U.S. money... [/list=1] That's all I can think of for now...there were some other funny moments I'll share when I have more time. Hope you all liked this; it was definitely one of the most fun and surreal night's I've had in a while...
Awesome. I saw Bobby Sura last night. Women were - seriously - throwing themselves at him. Insane. I am hungover.
Man, this has to be one of the "Posts of the Year"! You can't get any better than this. Thanks a bunch!!!!
