It is huge, I mean hundreds of thousands people are there, you have to be there in the morning to get close to the middle and wait until midnight.

    A drink would be great!

We'll be around for New Years! Give a shout when you firm up your plans!

Oh, and stay away from Times Square on New Years.

    trust me

If you go to Times Square for the new years celebration, make sure you get there before 6pm. The police block off the streets leading to Times Square and you won't be able to get in.

I heard you need to be there much much earlier than 6pm? Never really visited the square during New Year though.

DO NOT try to go to Times Square to watch the ball drop. I tried this back in the 01 New Year's Eve, and it was an absolute cluster*****. It was cold as balls outside, and the police start barricading off blocks around 9P once the surrounding areas start filling up. We saw this, and luckily found a good bar to hit up for champagne and tequila shots.

That said, I'm going to be in NY (Upper East Side) from 12/28 to 1/4. Anyone know the best sports bars in Manhattan to watch the BCS games? Oh, and the first person to say the ESPNzone in Times Square will get rewarded with a NYPD t-shirt and an I heart NY bumper sticker.

    i'll just concur...

im going also from the 29th-2nd.

will be my first time in NY. as far as the time square/nye thing obviously never done it. not too keen on standing in the same spot for 8-10 hours, but i think its something i need to do once in my life so why not.

also got tix for the bulls and knicks game on the 30th at the garden.

    good times hopefully.

I agree with Baqui. It is an absolute mess at Times Square for the ball drop. I was there at the turn of the millenium 99-2000. I asked people standing around how long they had been there , and they said 6AM.

We were able to get somewhat close b/c we had a hotel in the area. But we showed up like an hour before midnight.

I don't know if there are restroom facilities in the area even for those waiting out all those hours in Times Square.
