I'll be heading there tomorrow, so any good joints along the way would be helpful.

It's about the only fun thing about a road trip to Dallas...

    TIA.

If you find yourself near Huntsville and hankering for a sandwich, there is a Buc-ees. They make really good sandwiches and have all kinds of candies and nuts that are all outstanding.

That place is like a rare treat Disneyland.

How far north? You can get a bag of Beaver Nuggets in Madisonville. ;)

    At the mega-sized Buc-ee's!

Heading all the way to Plano, but anything between there and the Houston is game.

I live in Plano. We should introduce ourselves somewhere if possible. Send me a contact through the board email if you wish. ;)

There's not a very long list of great food along the I-45 corridor really. It is almost sad, but true - and worth a visit - that the convenient store fare of a Buc-ee's might be the most unique and pleasing experience.

There are mostly just truck stop type places... Maybe a place or two in Buffalo (Texas Burger) or Corsicana, but the landscape has changed a bit since I frequented it as much.

I usually only stop about midway on my trips, which ends up being Madisonville, from Plano to Lake Jackson.... And being that LJ is where Buc-ee's is from... it's a bit nostalgic for me too.

While buc-ees is alright, if you are on 45, in centerville there is this place called Woodys. BEST place to stop along 45. AMAZING beef jerky, awesome BBQ, homeade fudge and plenty of other things. Seriously, you'll thank me for it.

Its on the right side of 45 heading to Dallas.

Buc-ee's has about a 35 foot jerky counter alone, homemade fudge, ice cream... but yeah.

    Been to both. ;)

I'll definitely take you up on that. I'm going to be heading to Dallas quite a bit.

But tomorrow the meeting is at 3:00, so it's just a sad 500 mile trip for me. I was trying to find the fun part...

    Gotcha.

The trip sometimes seems to move more quickly as you drive it more...

Any of the named places in here thus far are pretty nifty spots.

    Drive safe!

Isn't there a barbecue place in an Exxon in Centerville that's supposed to be pretty good?

I figured someone would take out the 'ys' and put FIFY.

Now no one can take that idea.

I also say Woody's is a good stop. There's 2 of them, one on each side of the Centerville exit, it's a Shell station.

BBQ is average, below average (my high standards being Snow's, Louie Muellar, Kreuz Market)

But I like the fact that I can get some buttermilk pie on the way. Jerky is good, and you can find some classic candies.

Texas Burger (if you're not in Austin) is good too. Bucee's is newer, gigantic, but not that far out of Houston.

Collin St. Bakery is in Corsicana, good baked goods selection (macaroons are great). Sandwiches, soups, nothing to write home about though.

But of all my times driving up and down I-45, I've yet to go to New Zion Missionary Baptist Church to get some bbq. I just don't want to stop in Huntsville, it's too close to Houston where if I'm leaving, I feel like I'm not far enough, and when I'm coming back, I want to just keep going.

Went to the Shell station's Woody's the other day. The chopped bbq sandwich is great! If you get that, don't forget to get the free ice tea with it. I went there a few times before I figured out that the ice tea was free with a sandwich purchase :)
