Rookie Notes and Mail - Who Should Go to Vegas? by John Schuhmann Posted Jan 4 2007 5:25PM SECAUCUS, NJ, Jan. 4, 2006 -- We asked and you voted. Here's who you think should be going to Las Vegas in February. For the rookies, the following six guys were on every list (full list, not just one or two names) submitted: Andrea Bargnani, Randy Foye, Jorge Garbajosa, Rudy Gay, Adam Morrison and Brandon Roy. Your seventh and eighth selections were Shelden Williams and Paul Millsap. Finally, the ninth spot was a tie between LaMarcus Aldridge and Craig Smith. Others receiving votes were Renaldo Balkman, Jordan Farmar, Rajon Rondo, Thabo Sefolosha, Tyrus Thomas and Marcus Williams. For the sophomores, only Chris Paul and Andrew Bogut appeared on every submission. Monta Ellis, Raymond Felton, Charlie Villanueva, Hakim Warrick and Deron Williams also earned spots according to your votes. And there was a three-way tie for the ninth spot with the sophs between Danny Granger, Jarrett Jack and David Lee. Other sophomores receiving votes were Andrew Bynum, Ryan Gomes, Joey Graham, Luther Head, Sean May, Nate Robinson and Marvin Williams. Our Turn Of course, the Report has an opinion as well. Here's our rookie squad as of now... G: Randy Foye G: Adam Morrison F: Jorge Garbajosa F: Andrea Bargnani F: Shelden Williams Bench: Rudy Gay, Paul Millsap, Brandon Roy, Craig Smith In the running: LaMarcus Aldridge, Renaldo Balkman, Yakhouba Diawara, Jordan Farmar, Alexander Johnson, Marcus Williams Not coincidentally, that group closely resembles this week's rankings. Here's our soph squad... G: Chris Paul G: Deron Williams F: Sean May F: David Lee C: Andrew Bogut Bench: Monta Ellis, Raymond Felton, Charlie Villanueva, Hakim Warrick In the running: Andrew Bynum, Channing Frye, Jarrett Jack, Ryan Gomes, Danny Granger, Marvin Williams Only four of that first nine (Paul, Williams, Bogut and Villanueva) were on last year's rookie squad.
Well: Paul, Deron, Ellis (arguably) all deserve a spot over him. Felton and Jack, however, are only there cause they're starters and Luther's not. So that's crap.
IT'S better for him not to play cuz he'll be the 3pt champion in the NBA finals this year, and years to come.
Felton is definitely better than Luther right now, and Jack is about on the same level. Though Jack has shown flashes.. I like HEad, but don't overvalue him compared to some of these guys. I'd only argue that all 5 are PG's (except Ellis somewhat), so maybe Luther shoulda gone as a 2
You can take the Vegas out of Head, but you can't take the Head out of Vegas. Personally I think he was a bubble guy, and I don't mind him getting a little disrespected right now. He's played solid for us, he's no superstar yet but he's coming into his own as a role player and really had some break-out games. I do think he should've gotten the invite, but it's not the end of the world. All the more people will be surprised next year when he leads the league in 3 point %. It's all good.
Just to clarify, this isn't an official list. Just something that I guess nba.com threw together based on a poll. There's still a chance he could go, although I really wouldn't have a big problem with any of those guys they mentioned getting a nod over him.
We should!! Rafer will definately go into the record book if he did. The most airballs in a NBA 3pt shootout contest.
