I live on Guam and they're going to start offering HD channels next week. They said it's 5 HD channels. My question is....will HD finally work on other channels that have HD programming like (TNT, ABC etc.) or is it just on the HD channels?
You're wording of the question is confusing to me. And that reads like a Guam question, not an HD question. But here goes: HD only works on HD channels. There is ABC and ABC HD. All the broadcast network stuff (ABC, CBS, FOX, WB, UPN) is free over the air. It's the same channels you can get with bunny ears, except by FEB 2009, all that bunny ear stuff that picks up fuzzy analog will be eliminated and over the air will all be digital. HD is just a high quality form of digital. TNT, ESPN and other cable stuff (or Directv/Dish) has their own HD channels but those cannot be had for free over the air. They are running through cable, satellite, or fiber optics (Verizon FIOS). So, I'm assuming that Guam is getting broadcast HD (in preparation for the all digital move), which means you'll get shows like Heroes and Lost in HD (720P and up). Just because you're watching ABC HD (which by 2009 will just be ABC since everything will be HD capable...not 100% sure but it makes sense to me), it doesn't mean you're watching something in HD. Like daytime game shows and infomercials and crap are all still lower quality like 420p, but it'll just be a digital signal instead of an analog signal (which means no static fuzz-you either get the picture or you don't). Hopefully, everything will be in HD over the next few years.
I think he's asking if he will get 5 24-hour HD channels on top of the regular free over-the-air channels. My guess is that you should check your cable or national channel network to see if this is what they mean. I assume that anyone can get HD without cable right now with just an HD-capable tuner or HDTV. That is good stuff. I never knew how HD worked in other countries, but I know TV Azteca and Televisa of Mexico already show it. And, Kim, it's "your wording" instead of "You're wording."
I think he's asking if his current channels for TNT etc that say broadcasted in HD (but his standard channel) will turn into HD. The answer is no, you'll get NEW channels added on that are in HD while still having the regular channels too.
