THE LAST OF US: Pedro Pascal & Bella Ramsey Are Joel & Ellie In A Stunning First Look At The HBO Series As fans across the globe celebrate The Last of Us Day, HBO has finally shared a first look photo from their highly-anticipated live-action series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. To bring #TLOUDay to a close, HBO has shared an official photo from the highly-anticipated The Last of Us live-action series, offering a first look at Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian; Game of Thrones) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones; His Dark Materials) as protagonists Joel and Ellie, respectively. Production is fully underway on the ten-episode first season, with Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann writing the scripts and serving as co-showrunners. While the series is expected to mostly follow the events of the first game, based on the photo, it looks like it'll also be making some deviations. Along with Pascal and Ramsey in the lead roles as the fan-favorite survivors, Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate; Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will co-star in the series regular role of Tommy. Meanwhile, in recurring and guest roles, Merle Dandridge (The Flight Attendant; The Last of Us: Part II) will play Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce (Castle Rock; The Last of Us) will play Perry, Anna Torv (Mindhunter; Fringe) will play Tess, Nico Parker (Dumbo; Reminiscence) will play Sarah, Murray Bartlett (August; The White Lotus) will play Frank, and Con O'Neill (Chernobyl; The Batman) will play Bill. The Last of Us is expected to debut sometime in 2022.
what is the idea here, i mean aside from the already fascinating teaser of two people slouching with backpacks and looking at a field?
The first game was not only a great game, but it was a compelling cinematic story as well. It would make an excellent adaption into a series. I see only one issue: the first game was so good, the show itself will have to compete with the voice acting and cinematics of the first game. A live person is going to be able to emote better than a digital character, but fans have quite an attachment to Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson. Another thing they can do in the show is retcon the abomination that was Last of Us Part 2. "You just can't handle alternative lifestyle characters" a dumb person might say about Last of Us Part 2....wrong. The second game took everything that everybody loved about the first game and destroyed it. The "wokeness" didn't even matter. It was the dumbing down of characters (and the dumb story) that destroyed the game. Now is the chance to retcon the stupidity of the second game if they so feel like it.
Me too. Both games were good. People try to think to much and try to make different scenarios or trying to make it as accurate to life as possible. It’s a game and I’m playing a game for entertainment.
Loved game 1. Game 2. If there is a Game 3, Druckmann turns Ellie into Elliot who post abs pics on social media!
I really hope that Bella Ramsey does not just run around screaming like Dakota Fanning or something. Pedro Pascal would not have been my choice for Joel, but, he's a good actor so I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. After Part 2 flopped I'm really nervous that this will too, because apparently a lot of the minds behind TLOU1 left in the intervening years (supposedly mostly due to Druckmann) and Druckmann is the only one left from the project advising on the show.
Out of curiosity, what is the source of this about Druckmann forcing out staff? I'm familiar with Bruce Straley and Amy Hennig leaving ND, and possibly a few others, but I don't really think those 2 were forced out by Neil (despite baseless rumors). There's a lot of nonsense being spread about ND for dumb reasons, and I'm curious if this is just more of the same, or something I might have missed. I still don't really understand the massive hate for TLOU2. I can understand not liking it or whatever (I didn't personally agree with some narrative choices), but it wasn't due to a lack of talent or anything like that IMO. It did sell 10M+ units and still received quite a bit of praise overall (despite the backlash from some). I'm sure the series will be fine, especially with the help of Craig Mazin.
I played both games. Part 1 is a top 10 game of all time. Part 2 isn't bad either. It is very long and dark. It has a controversial storyline but it kept me captivated throughout the whole game. Tried to replay it but the scenery and atmosphere and coloring is just so dark. Kind of depressing to play.
Probably video game thread from here on out. Part 2 online discussions always get spicy. Anyways the game recieved a lot of hate for culture war reasons due to some YouTube grifters who took advantage of the leaks, created a hate narrative that brainwashed many isolated young impressionable male gamers and farmed that hate
