holy frijoles! Could you imagine a lineup in a few years of Haywood, Griffin and Morris? It'd be damnation alley for anyone in the paint.
What's baffling to me is how did they not know this was coming? So now they just lose a first round draft pick for nothing? Hell, at least trade it for a future pick. ------------------ This space awaiting something witty to be said in a long, slow off-season...
Rumor is that apart from Haywood's questionable intensity he may have knee problems, that's why so many teams passed on him. However if we somehow can jettison some of our own dead weight (you know who) we might be able bring him aboard dirt cheap. If he gets cut soon enough we could at least bring him on to our summer league team and see how he does. Unfortunately I think teams like New York and Seattle might be able to field more appealing offers. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Glyde22 (edited July 03, 2001).]
Maybe their master plan in acquiring Haywood was with the intention of packaging him with Outlaw in a trade to gain some cap relief in their pursuit of Davis. After all, it should be easier to get a team to swallow Outlaw's contract, while not sending any salaries in return, with Haywood, than it would've been with Doleac in the deal. If Dream decides to go elsewhere or asks for too much, it would definitely be worth looking into. ------------------ Nothing is impossible, if you believe it's possible.
We don't need anymore young guys. What we need is a veteran rebounder/ defender. I would love to have Outlaw on this team. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
What's Haywood bench pressing these days? 190? 195 max?? ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Orlando is not just going to let Haywood go. If they do let him go it would be 2 or 3 for on e to lower there cap space. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
Orlando dumping Brendan Haywood is brilliant. That guy is a waste of time. He has all the potential in the world, but he is so freaking soft it isn't even funny. And he rarely gets physical in the post. I personally fill Haywood = Benoit Benjamin unless Haywood gets some heart. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
Most the people I know can almost bench 190-195 so it was probably a joke. I think most of the players in the league workout with more than that. I wouldnt mind Haywood as a backup, but I would stil love Outlaw on the team.A Mo/Bo combo would be great at PF and then we could have 3 guys who could play both forward positions, even though Outlaw is a bit slow at the 3 and Griffin is a bit small for the 4. ------------------ AKA Rendiggler
Would anyone be opposed to seeing him thrown in as part of a Bo Outlaw deal? I think it would be a great move, you never know the guy is a rookie, he could turn out to be a decent center in the NBA(something Kelvin Cato isn't). Anyone know what it would take to get Outlaw away from the Magic? ------------------
To acquire Haywood AND Outlaw the Rockets would have to trade either Cato/Collier or Cato/KT to make room for them. The latter scenario seems more likely considering Dream's health and capspace. I'm still interested in getting Miller from the Bulls. Crumbs would probably give him up cheap. I don't think it would take much to pry Outlaw from the Magic. The Magic have stockpiled picks, so players with one year left on their contracts would probably be appealing to them. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited July 03, 2001).]
Teams don't have an option to not sign 1st round picks. By drafting someone they are deemed to making a contract offer. Two years ago Dallas was forced to take on Leon Smith's contract even though he freaked out prior to both sides agreeing to a deal. ------------------
TPL- I agree with Miller, I'd like to see him in the Rocket's PJs. You said Orlando is interested in players with one year left on their contracts, can you say Walt Williams? Their salaires, Bo and Walt, are almost the exact same, so the trade would seem plausible, but will the Magic let go of Outlaw that easily? If Bo becomes a Rocket, does that mean KT is gone? ------------------
The Rockets better be ready to pay the Dream $10m if Davis is going to get that or more. Hakeem is as critical to us as Davis is going to be to any team. ------------------
Maybe we could broker a deal that would help send Webber to Orlando. In Return we could get Haywood and Outlaw. Maybe they could take Collier and Kenny Thomas. I would not mind that at all. ------------------
DearRock--If Hakeem can play 38 minutes a night for 80 games, while doing it at an All-Star level, THEN he'll be worth what Davis is asking for. ------------------
I still say the Rockets should offer Langhi or maybe Walt Williams for the rights to one of the 2001 second round centers (Ken johnson, Alvin Jones). As much as everyone seems to love Langhi around here, this team has NO use for him anymore. I'd rather have Bull and his veteran experience to fill the tall 3-point shooter role. And this team needs another big body, not a bunch of small forwards. ------------------
subtomic, your onto something. Langhi is good and all but the SF is filled to the top. We have Griffin, Williams, Morris, Bullard, and likely Anderson. Even without Langhi it's filled up. What can the Rockets get for Langhi? That would rock. ------------------
