OK - he goes for every rebound and on defense, he guards his man like it's the last second of a playoff game. He's usually undersized and over matched every night but he still does these things in an outstanding way. I love that! On offense, he has no shot, no range, no post up moves, and can't score unless he's under the basket. All kidding aside, he does have some pretty moves under the basket that aren't as easy as they might look. So on offense he's a total scub. But that's a plus because every team in the league knows he's a scrub, and when he's standing more than a few feet away from the basket, teams just leave him. His man doubles or covers the pick and roll and just leaves him. He just rolls to the bucket and lays in the pill. I love it...I can't ever remember seeing a player quite like him.
The title insults Chuck, the post compliments him. As long as teams come away with a feeling they've just been owneed by a 6'6 foot, I don't care how teams see Chuck Hayes, he does the job he is needed for and plays nearly perfectly along side Yao.
He's my favorite current Rocket. I love the way he is always working on the court. He is non-stop hustle. He knows where to be and when to cut on offense. He is a work horse, who doesn't need the spotlight, and doesn't care when he doesn't get it. He is the ultimate team player in that way. He plays without ego, but plenty of fire. It is very refreshing and fun to watch him play. When I go to games live, even on the plays that he isn't directly involved in, he's working his hardest always moving, and always into the game.
Insulting or not...it's true. I just hope all the other teams just keep leaving him. Hey if I was coaching against us...I'd double off that scrub too...everyone else on the roster can score from anywhere almost except Mutombo
if he is a SCRUb he has become a very polished one! I would prefer to say that he is a Specialist Role player who is very good at what he does. Chuck Hayes is one of the few on our team who continues to improve. It is amaizing how he has succeeded, especially with a coach like JVG!
And here I thought I was going to have to come in here guns blazing. Now yall know why I followed this kid's career so closely. He's the "everyman" who made his dreams come true with hard work and drive. I don't know how long he will last in the NBA but I plan to be there watching the whole ride.
change title. Scrub...that's worth a ton. You're right, it's true...but you gotta qualify it so you're not insulting
I like that in the last 5 games he's got 2.2 spg, and not many points but 68% for those. His rpg is close to 9 I believe? I like that JVG and the team worked to incorporate him into the offense this year. If teams could cheat off him, it would be like they could freely double Yao or Tracy. Once they determined his range (say 17 or 18 inches ), they designed some plays to burn the doubles and I like how he worked on those shots. It also appears that some of his fouls may be to keep Yao from getting called. Smart. The fact the he compliments Yao so well and can start mean that Howard can be fresher off the bench and match-up more often against other team's seconds. I really like the guy, but then I pretty much like this entire team.
