that posession where he forced KG to shoot two tough turnarounds, then got a hand in when KG tried to drive the third time he got it....great job by Hayes...
He must be taking notes from Shane. KG is one of the few players in the league who presents real problems for Hayes so tonight was twice as nice. Also, when the camera went to KG after that sequence he was gasping like he just ran a marathon.
He shut him down in the second period. I loved all those times KG tried to go low on Hayes and just went down with him, and didn't budge an inch. KG was frustrated he couldn't move him back Damn solid defense tonight.
He was a mountain tonight. As hard as KG tried he could not topple that mass of muscle and determination.
We really need Chuckie to play Landry's or Scola's minutes if the opposing team has a star PF or C. We have to have a balance of Defense(CHuckie, Artest) and offense (Yao, Wafer, Brookls)
He usually does a great job on Chris Bosh... He didn't play that much against Toronto. He usually does an average (by average... KG scoring over and over) against Kevin... Tonight he showed up and stopped him! Great defense for sure!
No doubt about it, he was awesome on D tonight. That sequence with KG was worth the price of admission.
He was AMAZING a game changer, against teams with a low post guy, Hayes should be the first PF off the bench. He changed the course of the entire game with his D....it was infectious. And, he scored, what like 4 points.....awesome. DD
When i was watching the 2nd quarter, Chuck played superb defense on KG, i was impressed. KG was probably pissed he was short on both shots Chuck was guarding him.....we just didn't get the rebound @_@..
I see through you. Chuck is no longer a threat to supplant Scola in the starting lineup, while Landry is. Therefore Landry has become your enemy. Don't deny it.
I was saw it the other way around. Hayes has always (as far as I can remember) done a great job on Garnett. He's immovable. Like a stationary object of some kind.
4pts for hayes is like 20 points for your average player, but have to credit him for his defense he always brings it, definitely needs more playing time atleast against star 4's.
That's kind of the problem--KG's always been long enough and a good enough perimeter shooter that he could hit his fadeaway over the Chuck Wagon. Chuck gives up too much height. Not tonight though, and I think the Battieresque technique of blocking his vision rather than going for the outright block played a big part of it.
I bet it makes KG pretty mad when some dude no one has ever heard of just owns him on defense. Hayes is like 6 inches shorter and still is the best post up defender we have.
As always great appreciation for Hayes from me. But to be fair, Garnett didn't look like he had his usual energy in this game. Hayes really made him work for his points, and KG faded. Celtics tried to do the same thing to Yao with Perkins and Big Baby, but Yao responded. Our star played bigger.
