http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-hawks/hawks-johnson-wont-sign-149644.html Well... good news for 2010 FA shoppers. Suprised me that he turned down 60 million at his age. Yes, pun intentional.
Waiting for the inevitable "Hawks Suck, Still No Johnson Extension" Carl Herrera thread at around the All-star break.
Johnson is a really good player.......I've seen quite a few Hawks games in person and I must say that he has a very nice game. Don't think he can be a consistent #1 go to guy (and take you deep into the playoffs). But if you have a #1 option or several very solid options around him, then he can and will succeed. Surprised that he didn't take that extension.
It's always about the money. He wants the full max ($20M) or at least close to it. Atlanta media have said the owners and GM have been careful with their payroll with JJ in mind. So they'll be in position to offer him that much if need be.
He should have taken it,he isn't worth giving a near max. His playoff performance in the outgoing season was very poor.
I believe I heard a report between playoff games that he was hurt and that he was playing on a badly sprained ankle. Although I don't know if he began the series like that or he hurt himself in the middle of the series.
Hilarious thread title btw. Johnson is def worth near max, but not full max. First I would take him because someone of his skill, size, and speed are rarely found. Second coupling him with the Adlemaster can only make him utilize his full potential even more. Third J. Johnson kind of looks like Andre Johnson of the Texans and it would make a cool story if they found out they were related after he arrived in HOUSTON.
Not sure either, but I think it was sometime during the first or second game of the series. I remember doubting whether or not he would play. (he did)
meh. I have been more and more dissapointed with JJ as the years passed. He can easily be considered the 3rd best SG in the league, but it just shows that most of the talented wing scorers are forwards more than anything else. Is he really any better than say, Caron Butler? I doubt it, and he's not worth the max contract he's getting paid.
Really? I dunno Butler is more consistent and he basically does the same things as JJ except with more rebounding and less defense. If you look at their league average last season it was almost the same, JJ had 1 pt more but Butler had 1% better fg. JJ might be better but I doubt its significant enough to warrant the disparity in their pay. Like I said if JJ had been playing at the SF there wouldn't be that much hype for him.
JJ is way better. Take it from somebody that follows the Hawks -- Butler would crumble if he was asked to create offense and defend the way JJ does. Not only that but Butler isn't exactly the poster child for durability. JJ is the main reason why the Hawks are significant again. I'm sorry but I just can't overlook all of this and point to some numbers on paper. It makes little sense.
Someone who lifts a team usually posts the requisite stats. All I'm saying is that his stats are eerily similar to Butler. I don't know why JJ needs to create offense so much, Horford, Marvin Williams and Bibby can all create their own shots. Defense and durability are another matter JJ is one of the best defenders at his position, but then again JJ did fade in the playoffs when his team needed him the most...
